This is a great book exploring the possibility of dragons as an actual physical creature and the anatomy, physiology and behavior thereof. It was the basis for a Rankin-Bass animated movie, although the movie also drew heavily from "The Dragon and the George" by Gordon R. Dickson. What realy sets this book apart from others like it is that not only was itthe first--to my knowledge--of its kind, but it also exudes a sense of child-like wonder on the author's part as he attempts to piece together dragons' secrets from description and legend.

Before Lahiri's The Namesake, there was The Roller Birds of Rampur in my life. Though the plot may be considered overwrought and overly dramatic now through my adult eyes, it was an important book to me because for the first time someone translated my second-generation Indian experience into a book. Though Sheila is from London, her experience in learning to balance her culture felt similar to mine. This book also taught me a lot about parts of Indian culture and Hindu religion that I didn't know about. It made the concept of Karma/Dharma very easy, it summarized Indian history, etc. I love this book, I really do. I wish I could find Indi Rana and hug her. She helped me a lot as a 13-year-old growing up in Minnesota.

This was suppose to be a horror book but it was not scary at all. Maybe when it was written this stuff was scary but I'm a little confused as to how that could be. I actually prefer the movie version to this book & I NEVER say that about movies based on books!!

This book should be read by everyone. Especially those living in New York. Kind of reminds you why you put up with this sometimes crappy city: magic happens.
Trollope's main satirical target in this novel is advertising. It's too heavy handed, particularly from a novelist whose satirical touch could be appealingly light. What saved this novel for me was the competition between Robinson and Brisket, the butcher, for the hand of Maryanne Brown, although that, too, Trollope draws very broadly. Twenty years or so after reading this, I still chuckle over Robinson's excoriation of the more prosperous Brisket, when he feared Brisket was prevailing with Maryanne: "Let him revel in his shambles!"

It seemed a little dated, but it was written well enough to make for a quick read.
An important work in American Literature, but torture. Pure torture.

Met him at a Luncheon Society event. This is a very readable book on an intellectually challenging subject. He does a great job tying things together.

In places this almost made me feel sorry for Hannibal, but not quite.
