I absolutely LOVE this book! Pasricha hits the spot with every day little things you don't really stop and think about. He comments on each one in a humorous way that had me laughing as I flipped the pages! If you want something to make you happier, this is the book!

Very rarely, if ever, does a sports book or memoir provide both entertaining stories and insightful looks at strategy. Jack McCallum keeps a good balance between the off the court activity versus on court action. From an accomplished senior writer of venerable Sports Illustrated, a reader should expect nothing less. Readers won't find stories of debauchery or hedonistic pursuits. Instead, everything is centered on basketball operations--ownership, public relations, travel, etc. What I especially enjoyed was the dynamic between the coaches and how they strategized for each opponent. Good read for any sports enthusiast that would like to learn what happens behind the scenes.

I generally pass on novels with multiple authors. However, the Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child partnership is a mystery to me. Together, their trashy airport thrillers are actually not bad at all for the genre. Yet on their own, these guys deserve a special section in the Dan Brown wing of the Museum of God-Awful American Writing. I assumed after Douglas Preston's word-poop "The Codex" (listened to this driving up to Yosemite) that Lincoln Child was the decent author in the Preston/Child partnership. "Death Match", about a super-computer that optimizes online dating, disproved this theory in a big way. The book started out OK but devolved, Stephen King-like, into a trite, completely predictable mess toward the end. Much of "Death Match" was suspiciously similar to the earlier, also weak Preston/Child collaboration "Mount Dragon". At least Child is safe from plagiarism charges on this one, though his crimes against people stuck on a Southwest Airlines flight with only one book (ie. me) remain unanswered.

An interesting book, catalouging the rise to fame of U2 from a completely novel album, as well as seeing the counterpoint struggles of Bono-wannabe, Neil McCormick. It's a paced read, both gripping and light-hearted. The author pokes fun at himself, particularly for taking himself so seriously. Some chapters make you laugh out loud, others make your teeth clench in anger for opportunities lost. The rest is just a rollercoaster ride of music, men and ire. A must read for die-hard Bono fans, people wanting to make it big in the rock n roll world, or else for a good read by the by.

The action, suspense, pacing all great. The characters, however, are a bit two-dimensional. You can tell they take a backseat to the plot. I also had a hard time visualizing some of the descriptions of the facility, but that's probably just me. A good summer read book.

"You should only read what is truly good or what is frankly bad." -Stein When spring came, even the false spring, there were no problems except where to be happiest. The only thing that could spoil a day was people and if you could keep from making engagements, each day had no limits. People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself. By then I knew that everything good and bad left an emptiness when it stopped. But if it was bad, the emptiness filled up by itself. If it was good you could only fill it by finding something better. There is not much future in men being friends with great women although it can be pleasant enough before it gets better or worse, and there is usually even less future with truly ambitious women writers. Picasso told me that he always promised the rich to come when they asked him because it made them so happy and then something would happen and he would be unable to appear.
