I would give this one a no star rating but it doesn't go that low. Don't waste your money buying this book-wait till you can read it for free!!!!!! I have always finished a book once I have started it but not this one. It takes 500 pages to set up the story. Big waste of my tine!

Another book about Nancy Drew. I love learning about how Nancy was created, her history, and trivia.

It's not as good as Secret History
It seems to me im coming onto an unsettling trend with moore's stories. I hate the endings. This books ending killed me. I loved the rest of the story and loved the two main characters. It just seems that he gets done with the climax and is too drained of his comical writing to put together a decent resolution. I do hope he puts Tommy or Jody in one of his upcoming books. The only other riff i had with this book is how underdeveloped he made the 3 vampire figures who came into the story about 30 pages form the end. It didn't really do anything except maybe Moore could think of no other way to finish off the bad vampires but to have the hauled off by some random superior vampires. Now that im ranting about how much I hate some of the smaller things in a book I loved The typos and incorrectedness drives me nuts! i.e. In You suck Tommy talks about how zelda (the turtle) is "in some random persons fish pond" when in truth it was scott that was hauled away and he had kept zelda. Also Tommy hauls the turtle statue and Jodys statue out of the old appartment first then takes the vampire to the dock. But when his minion gets to the old loft she says the statues are there but tommy and the vampire statue are gone. Anyways overall and looking past some minor setbacks it was a good book.

I found this book an incredible read. The rhyme, meter and pace were terrific. The story is fun, the characters are great. It rolls from page to page bringing the reader along for an intense and delightful ride. Yes, it's about the elves overthrowing the evil Santa Yes, it's tad dark for a christmas story Yes, it's great fun to read!! I look forward to reading it again, really... it makes my heart race!
Mind boggling.
Most novels about Anglo expats in Paris tend to fall back on the same handful of cliches. "A Year in the Merde" ignored all of these to forge new ones, which "In the Merde for Love" continues to do. But I think "In the Merde for Love" is a more character-driven, and as such there are fewer witty vignettes. The writing, though, remains extremely funny. Back then, I didn't understand something very important about sitting in a cafe in a non-touristy part of rural France. The people aren't necessarily unfriendly. It's just that they're so unused to strangers that they don't notice you. Or if they do see you, they don't know what to do with you. The barman knows what every one of his customers drinks at any time of the day, so the arrival of a non-regular doesn't compute. Why is there someone sitting in Marcel's seat when Marcel's been dead for three years? I wished everyone a friendly "bonjour" and made eye contact with all the men who looked my way. The customers were all men, their ages ranging between thirty and death. There were about ten of them, and at least half had moustaches.
