★★★½. The last ten percent of the book was such a let-down after what had been a really great book. I very much enjoyed the characters and their repartee.
A groundbreaking explanation of what we are referring to when we talk about our consciousness. Criticism is often levelled at Dennett for "explaining away" consciousness, but his point is to say that our folkpsychological intuitions about consciousness are wrong, and we have to rethink it all over if it's ever going to make sense. Good riddance to the cartesian theater.

An entertaining, informative book that deconstructs what we eat and shows where it comes from. Pollan organizes the book around four meals: Industrial (McD's), Industrial Organic (Whole Foods), Local Organic (Polyface Farm in Virginia), and Hunter-Gatherer (Northern California). His book is a revealing demonstration of the costs we bear -- in damage to our health, our communities, and our environment -- when the logic of capitalism overruns the logic of nature. One of the most surprising revelations is how industrial agriculture contributes to making our country so dependent on fossil fuels. I also learned a lot from his discussion of animal rights and vegetarianism in the chapter where he has to justify hunting a wild pig to himself. This book has made me want to explore slow food and eating seasonally, and to be more active in finding more local, sustainable sources of food, such as farmers' markets and CSA's.

I'm not a huge romance novel fan (with the exception of Jane Austen), but I really enjoyed this book. Sort of a historical-fiction-romance book. It's very clever and well-written.
eine deutsche Ausgabe, natürlich
From what I read of this, it seemed like an entertaining take on the vampire theme. But, I am kind of tired of vampires, even though it seems like I haven't read that many books featuring them. Maybe it's all the book reviews and hype. Maybe it's all those Sookie Stackhouse books I listened to.

she is a genius.
3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. Actually one of the better LDS fiction books I've read...not too much preaching and a good plot.
