Classic Leonard, just easy to fall into and get lost in the worlds he creates. The man is an artist.

Posted At: Riverina Romantics My Rating: 5 out of 5 * Romance Rating: 4 out of 5 <3 No! -cries- It’s over! It’s the end of the world! Okay, maybe not, but it sure feels like a part of me has died. I have been with this series since the very beginning, and I have enjoyed every step of the journey. To have it end is bittersweet. I finally got the story I’ve been waiting for since book 1, but I come to the end of an incredible series. This book had a lot to live up to, and I’m so happy it didn’t disappoint. I’ve heard many people found Quinn annoying. Personally, I thought she was a perfect fit. Having been a rebel leader for so long, she’s lived a very lonely and terrifying life. But things are about to change. Much faster than she’d like. I really liked how strong yet vulnerable Quinn was. It showed that she was a human woman with normal feelings. For so long she’s has to be this tough leader, someone others can count on. She never had a chance to lean on someone else. With Alaric, she gets that chance. She gets the opportunity to not only let down her guard, but be a woman. Even though life as she knows it is quickly being ripped to absolute shreds, and despite her best efforts to do what is right, it comes down to one thing: love. She realizes that she can still be a prominent aid in the war, but she can still be the woman she is inside. Instead of keeping the real her locked up, she can finally—after so long—be herself. Dear sweet Poseidon! Alaric was just drool-worthy from the beginning. Finally having had enough with everything—his position, his duties, his loneliness, even his god—he’s decided he’s not going to take it anymore. There’s only one thing in his life that matters: Quinn. And he’ll do anything to protect her. But, like in all good finales, things go wrong very quickly. I was hooked by Alaric’s transformation through this book. Starting off determined to say ‘screw you’ (putting it nicely) to everything and everyone, to realizing that he has one more very important duty, was very deep and heartfelt. I felt his journey through the roughest part of his life was not only perfectly done, but he handled it in a way that was true to himself. With the help of his fellow warriors, and one stubborn rebel leader, he became the thing of legends. He completely embraced who he was deep inside, accepted that he had been where he belonged all along, and found love when he thought he’d never have it. It was absolutely beautiful and torturous and 100% perfect. And let me just say, that ending? I couldn’t put the book down until I finished it. Just when you thought it was over, something else reared its ugly disastrous head. And then something else. And then something else. It was pure torture, but pure bliss at the same time. That ending was everything I could have wanted in a final book. I was in no way disappointed. It left me satisfied, but sad. Sad because such a phenomenal series has come to an end. My warriors will always have a place in my heart.

Interesting premise: twins trading places to dupe fiancees. Completely dry reading.

My friend Tracy gave me this book and it has become one of my favorites. Dark and lovely.
Raised this to five stars because after re-reading it, Alice Hoffman is a master storyteller. Because one of the main characters is a teen, I'm going to add this to the teen good reads as well. Alice Hoffman weaves a dark web of mystery and real-world magic in the small town of Haddan, Massachussetts. With a few beams of sunshine through-out, this novel reads like a modern-day gothic. Carlin, a poor young (but of course, beautiful!) teen, lands a scholarship to the prestigious Haddan School through her determination and swimming abilibity. Haddan is a small boarding school for the elite families of the east coast and outsiders are definitely not welcome. She befriends Gus, a charmingly geeky boy whom everyone is determined to either hate or be annoyed by. Things get out of hand at Haddan School, when some serious bullying has a horrific result. The story intertwines mysteries from Haddan School's past, romance of teachers, and interesting police detective with a record of his own, and beauty which can be found, even in the darkest of times. And even when it seems some kids can get away with murder, they never really get away.

...The Frozen Sky is a well written novella, looking for a reader not afraid of a generous helping of hard science fiction. As with many shorter pieces, some readers will feel it should have been longer and that is leaves a lot of the background of the story rather vague. Personally, I feel Carlson gets the level of detail right. It is after all, as much a story of Vonnie and how, despite the hostility she meets on Europa, she's still able to defeat the impulse to blindly strike back and realize what must be done instead. When Vonnie reaches that point, the background, fascinating as it may be, has served its purpose. To me at least,The Frozen Sky is a very satisfying first contact story. Recommended for hard science fiction fans in particular. Full Random Comments review
Compared to its predecessor, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone , Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets falls flat. Most of the book consists of uninteresting characters - and let's face it: Harry, Ron, and Hermione are not terribly interesting characters - talking to one another. While the kids' mystery-solving exploits in the first book were charming, here it wanders into silly Scooby-Doo territory. The book's saving graces are that it can be read in one sitting, and the story moves pretty efficiently.
