Not nearly as kinky as the title implies Smiley, this is a pretty straightforward romance novel with a hint of a mystery. There were some moments when I thought it could have used a better edit, but it was an enjoyable read. For me, the book took of when the hero and heroine became clearly on the same team and started being disagreeable with people other than one another. By the end, I was hooked!

I thought this was a very captivating story. You could tell that most of the characters were not the people they portrayed themselves to be. This kept me wondering and wanting to find out more and especially what was true. The only disappointment was not really ever learning the whole truth at the conclusion of the novel. I enjoyed the writing style and felt that it really captured the times, post World War II and the setting, Palm Beach, Florida. I liked the main character, Evie, but I was hoping she would take a stronger stand at the end of the novel.

Cokie Roberts tells some fascinating stories about the women who were the wives and mothers of the Founding Fathers and other influential 18th century politicians. I think I may have to read this book at some point because the audiobook is "unabridged selections" which leads me to believe I may have missed some stuff. I liked what I heard, anyway!
