(April 2007) I cannot WAIT to get into this book! Okay, now that I have, I can say that it is everything that the title says that it is. It is a collection of Ebert's more recent reviews of the awful movies that are made every year and it is an easy read, quite freqently it's hilarious, and sometimes it has me diving for my dictionary to understand the insult. Most often, the reviews have me looking for pen and paper to note a referenced movie classic...some day I'll get around to watching movies made before 1975. What I really like is that it's an easy book to pick up and to put down. With two kids, the 2-page average length of a movie review is perfect for the short breaks that I can find in a day, or just enough reading before I hit the hay at night. My husband would tell you that it's a perfect bathroom book, but that is only in reference to the length of the reviews and not to the quality of the writing. My thumb is up.

"Pushed to the Limit has great, strong character developments. Just to be slightly picky, they really could have made the picture on the cover look like the characters… pet peeve of mine that I just discovered!" Read more of Julie's review on NRR http://www.nocturnereads.com/Pushed-t...

This was a good book--it was fun because the character is so different than me--black, male, east coast---yet I could totally relate to his teenage angst in growing up. I was reading this on an airplane and laughed out loud. I love his Colson Whitehead's writing style.
snoozefest. gave up 1/3 through.

I heart magical realism. This and Like Water For Chocolate were my favorite as a youth.
I absolutely loved this book, from beginning to end.
Great book written by a Christian mother who's daughter converted to Islam. Talks about how she overcame certain stereotypes with the religion and how her relationship has grown with her daughter and her daughter's family. Great read!!!!
Where to begin? Let's start with the title, "The Imperfectionists". It is wrong. It is an amelioration of the writers, copy editors, bosses, stringers and other assorted characters associated with an English language, third rate newspaper published in Italy. Imperfect is much too benign a description; they are sad, self absorbed, self deceiving, losers, whose lives, as described in Rachman's chapters, are at best mildly interesting and at worst, single-thought-provoking; that thought being, "why am I reading this?". Even the best of the stories, those of the mildly interesting category, have ridiculous endings seemingly tacked on to insure a negative reaction. I would have failed in the publishing industry, as I would never have published this successful novel.

Very, very, very bizarre! I've read several of his books now (sometimes I wonder why!) and they are definitely different. I've appreciated the others more than this. If you're looking for an escape and maybe a laugh without having to think too hard, you might like this.
