This was fun, I loved the story and the characters and it was overall a very fluffy story about a human girl becoming a Greek goddess. Now with that being said, I will say The Goddess Test doesn't follow Greek Mythology very well, out of all the gods Carter choose she based this story on Hades- a pretty mean and awful god according to the original myth. In this novel he's portrayed as Henry and has a very Edward-like character, only not as obsessive, actually not obsessive at all, just broody with no communication skills. I was expecting Henry to be dark and a bit twisted and most certainly manipulative, but he came off very...sweet. Not that Henry's character was a bad thing but it may disappoint mythology buffs. I could dissect this novel and pinpoint the many predictable scenarios, the characters that needed serious flushing out and the obvious villain, but I thought the actual writing and overall entertainment of the book outweighed its shortcomings. Ive read some very nasty and downright ridiculous mean reviews about this book and the one thing to keep in mind is that the author made it fun and made the mythology her own and also made it suitable for younger readers, taking out all the "taboo" themes in Greek mythology. So if your looking for disturbing sexuality and creepy Greek god behavior, your not going to find it in this book, lovers of teen romance, fairy tale atmospheres and light paranormal will love.

Kinda didn't like the characters for the first 1/2 of the book, and then realized that I'm not SUPPOSED to like them-- which made me like this book much more. By the end of it, I was drawn in-- although actually was rather peeved at the author as I wanted a different ending.

Although the concept of this book caught my attention, I was very disappointed in it. The stories are simplistic, and the characters are one-dimensional. I was not impressed with the author's writing style either. For example, she repeatedly used the same words and phrases -- sometimes even in the same sentence. Also, this particular edition is filled with grammatical errors and missing words. Perhaps, if all the errors were corrected, it would make a good book for a 10-year-old, but it is definitely not adult reading nor acceptable as is.

This book is a miracle!, let me ask you a question, have you ever read a history of economic ideas that read like a novel? never! well this is an exception. This book is a study of the history of idea at it's best. From Adam Smith to Joseph Schumpeter. The author can bring the complicated to a digestible presentation to the general readers. He coupled the ideas with short snap of each thinker's lives. Simply the best!

These books just get better and better. Patricia Briggs doles out little tidbits of everyone's lives to make the waiting worthwhile. You get some new information on Zee, Samuel and even Adam. I really like the way Ms. Briggs weaves elements of previous stories in so you know whose who and what happened in just a few sentences. With series books published so far apart, it's often difficult to remember specifics. I believe the last installment had vampires; this one, the Fae. Mercy is an amazing character who just takes hit after hit until she's finally had enough and strikes back. I enjoyed the multi-layered storyline: multiple kidnappings, Mary Jo's betrayal, the werewolf challenge, Adam's injuries and Sylvia's defection. So much going on but nothing lost in the hoopla. Wonderfully written and even Samuel gets a happy ending.

This was the text for a history class of mine in high school. It was a really good text. I really enjoyed reading a book that wasn't a textbook for a history class. I felt like the history texts insulted our intelligence while a book like this allowed for more varied and interesting discussion. Reading a text like this allowed more analysis of what happened and why instead of simply memorizing things.

** spoiler alert ** Reread in August and September 2014: I have spent the last few weeks reading pieces of this book aloud to my two daughters. My seven-year-old loved it. My five-year-old was vocal about not wanting to listen to it, but once we began she would stay to hear the tale of Princess Amethyst Alexandra Augusta Araminta Adelaide Aurelia Anne of Phantasmorania. It is the story of the seventh princess in a family, all of which are beautiful and perfect and proper like all storybook princesses. Until at her christening a fairy godmother points her finger and declares "you shall be ordinary!" A gift she is certain will bring more happiness than all the other fairy gifts out together. I never tire of reading Princess Amy's story and her adventures that follow her father's decision to hire a dragon in order to trick a prince into marrying an ordinary princess. When we finished reding today I asked my seven-year-old what she thought the author wanted her readers to know. "That it's more fun to be yourself than to be like everybody else." Bingo. Thank you, M.M. Kaye. Read March 2009: I discovered this book in sixth grade and loved it. A month or so ago I found a copy in our local thrift store and couldn't put it in my cart fast enough. It's an easy, quick read and I love the main character, Amy. It's still one of my favorite books.

This book was very weird. I almost didn't want to finish it, but I did just to see how it ended. I will say one thing, you will never look at The Wizard Of Oz the same. I don't think I will every be able to watch it again.
