As far as Edith Wharton novels go, I found this one more comparable to Ethan Frome than The House of Mirth...which is to say, it didn't have nearly enough sarcasm and witty banter for my taste. That said, I still enjoyed it immensely. Wharton's landscape descriptions were so vivid that they put me right in the midst of the delicious summer. I almost didn't want to finish the book because I knew things couldn't possibly end well--this is Edith Wharton we're talking about, after all.

I love this book that comes from the young adult Beany Malone series by Lenora M. Weber. Beany is finally engaged to her next-door beau Carlton but all of her friends are getting married while Carl says they have to wait until he graduates from college, a long year away. When her old friend Kay shows up with her new husband, Joe- a runaway marriage, Beany slowly begins to see that young marriages may not be the thing. It's a book about young love and all the problems that come with those who are not emotionally ready for marriage. It is so very well written. It's my second time reading this book.

Answers great questions that I've always been stumped about, such as: why don't the oceans get saltier when sea water evaporates... Well written and inspires wonder. I felt excited about the sciences for the first time in quite a while. Written for the average joe, thankfully, and in a way that invites instead of closing doors.

I'm about 20% into the book and very disappointed. It's very weak compared to "Wicked Gentlemen" and "Feral Machines". The story is too linear and drags, and although the writing is good, a description of school routine isn't something that will keep me interested for 8 chapters. The two main characters bore the hell out me. UPD: It was a very disappointing read. Very boring, very uneventful. Dropped at 45%.
