I was wavering between 3 and 4 stars on this book, and I decided that the part of me that wanted to give it a 3 was my adult side. If I had read this book as a kid I would have been completely enchanted by it. The grown up in me, though, was annoyed by the author addressing the reader in almost every chapter. "What do you suppose, dear reader..." "Reader, to find the answer to that question you'll have to read on." Yadda, yadda, yadda. However, the story was great. My favorite quote (which, ironically, addresses the reader): "Reader, you must know that an interesting fate (sometimes involving rats, sometimes not) awaits almost everyone, mouse or man, who does not conform."

The Short of It: At first glance, Case Histories appears to be a collection of stand-alone stories but as the novel unfolds, they come together to form a very different kind of mystery. The Rest of It: Often, I find mysteries to be a bit predictable in nature. For this reason, I typically steer clear of them. However, my book club picked Case Histories for this month and although it’s definitely a mystery, it’s sort of veiled in its delivery. Meaning, it doesn’t hit you over the head with its mysterious-ness. Each case is, well…a tad shocking. Shocking in that these characters tend to think out loud and their observations and feelings over a particular person, place or thing are so honest that at times, you suck in a breath and say, “Wow.” I believe the idea was to have the stories alternate, and then eventually mesh into one. This happens, but rather loosely. You aren’t given all the details, but given enough to know what happens by the end of the novel. Although the result was a tad predictable, what happens within each case, is not. In the end, I’m not sure I liked how the cases came together. I almost like them better as stand-alone stories. As I read each case, I was left wondering about the people within them. As horrible as some of these characters are, I could easily relate to them. But given the entire situation, I lost the ability to relate to them. Well, some of them. As you can see, this review is a collection of my rambling thoughts because this reading experience left me rather antsy. It wasn’t a short story collection but in my opinion it didn’t really read like a novel either.

What is the opposite of a utopian ideal? Shteyngart's future visions. Interesting read nonetheless and funny too. Full of ironic, tongue in cheek sort of mumor.
I really liked this. Story of Bryan and Phil who meet on a one week gay cruise. They are instantly attracted to each other and later discover that Phil is a dom and Bryan had had a hidden desire to explore his submissive qualities. They then go on to do so with toys and commands. The novella mainly takes place over the one week the guys are together. (view spoiler) Really nice d/s story about a couple getting to know each other while exploring their needs.

Disturbingly funny story about an alienated, disenfranchised man living in the shattered remnants of German culture in the wake of WWII. He is an alcoholic, a cynical philosopher, and, yes, a clown.... This literary investigation has a distinct mood that sticks with you. It is bleak but humorous - metaphysical yet naturalistic. This is an often overlooked classic that is well worth the read.
Just the same thing as the first book " the Clique" and the movie...kinda boring..cuz i know the story already. And went through really quickly, with just convos.

I first read To Kill A Mockingbird in my 8th grade english class, and since then I have read it 4 more times. It is such a tender-hearted story with classic growing-up issues that are familiar to all of us - but then Harper Lee takes the reality of life by the horns and puts it into these children's experience in a memorable and perspective-changing way. Perhaps slavery and (I hope) racism are no longer huge issues in the U.S., but I feel even more that I have learned a good amount about loving people through reading this book - black or white. They hated Boo Radley too. Another thing i find interesting is the fact that Harper Lee never wrote anything else. It's almost as if these story was just running around in her soul, and so she let it out, and that was it...
