Here you'll find more information about cats. Why they behave. What ticks them. What makes them happy. Of course, they're just assumptions, but from my own observation, I find them pretty accurate.

** spoiler alert ** GOING TO START TOMORROW AS SOON AS WE GET IT FROM THE LIBRARY!!!! YAY!!! So I started it and it's hilarious. The kid eats his teacher's pencil! So basically it's about saving the panthers this time. There is an oil drilling scam that a guy named Twilly is trying to stop and an arsonist gone straight who no one believes didn't set the fire in the swamp when his school was there on a trip. There is some pranks like Hoot and that amuses me. Right now Nick and Marta are hiking through the swamp with Twilly to find their biology teacher, Bunny Starch. Oh i forgot to mention that she goes missing after going back into the swamp for some kid's inhaler during the fire. That's about as far as I am but Nick has taped his right arm behind his back to train to be lefty just like his Dad has too cuz of the war. (that's all I'm saying don't want to ruin the dramatic-ness of the beginning for ya.) Marta's pretty cool, she's kinda preppy though but I don't mind. She's being miffed right now because the swamp wrecked her brand new Converse and hey, I'd be pretty mad too if my friend convinced me to get in some strangers car and wait for him to come back and then ride in the car with that stranger to a swamp and then walk through it. Finished it and it was really good. They saved the panther!!!!! YAY!!! I had pretty much finished it when i wrote the last part so there's not much to add, but we do learn that their teacher fell off a telephone pole and landed on a pepsi bottle.

This was the first non-picture book I read on my own. I haven't read it in years, but I remember loving it.
more like 4.5 ...we really need those half stars...

I love Alex and Jack, I hope there will be a spin off with Lila's brother! Lila grew up, even she remains impulsive. The thriller is great and the story around Lila's family is very interesting. I hope there will be a third book :)

Written in 1953, this mystery takes place mostly in the Dorsetshire Hotel in Kenmore Square, several blocks from my house. It's an apartment building now. There are a couple murders, a kidnapping and a lot of money laundering. Much of the action takes place in the Arnold Arbotetum as well. The lingo and the atmosphere made the book for me, the ripping good plot was incidental. Dames saying, "say! What is this?" are alright by me. Also the turnpike wasn't there and they go into buildings that were torn down to make way for it. There's a Kenmore Cafeteria, bestill my beating heart! Etc, etc. Wonderful if you miss old Boston from before gentrification. My mother's Boston.
I've had this on my shelves for quite some time and admittedly dragged my feet about picking it up, but once I did, I had a hard time putting it down. It took me a while to start likng the characters but now find myself referencing this book to as many people as I can. Interesting concept (written in the 70's)though I prefer The Time Traveler's Wife.
Very engrossing book on tape, different in that it is read by a whole cast of actors. This should be required reading for high schoolers... how your life can be ruined by one bad choice.
"It was OK" -- that about sums it up. I'll start with the end of the book -- it was very good. It had pace, some excitement, a little horror, and a hook to the next book (which I will probably not bite at). I will be criticized for comparing to Ender's Game, but that's the only reason anyone would find themselves reading the second book. Ender's Game was the end of Speaker for the whole book, building up to a crescendo you didn't realize was coming. Speaker was a slog that ended well-enough, for a story. I finished it just to finish it, because I had already bought into Ender in the previous book, and literally bought this book. The story lingered and took its time -- the world it described wasn't so interesting that I wanted it to take its time. It was more about the characters. The characters were developed, to be sure, but the Portuguese was very distracting and made following character development difficult. I can't tell if OSC knew the language well, or was using it (in)effectively as a gimmick, but I won't apologize for being ethnocentric and having a hard time relating at-all. Reading the previous book was the only reason I could sympathize with any of the characters (one) at all (briefly and only over the xenocide, which was still not terribly convincing to me). OSC has a writing style that works for me. I wish I could have enjoyed it.
