Really LOVED the short Sookie story in this. Laughed at poor Bill and Amelia proves to be a great character. The other stories are just as good. Some a bit more twisted than others, but still had me guessing.

Sadder than usual. But full of water and roses.
A Cyrano de Bergerac story with cooking instead of letters--it should have been awesome. It was not.

I think I actually read this entire book as an undergraduate. I hope I never have to read it again.
** spoiler alert ** Picked up because of Gwen's reviews and the alternate history plot. I love the way Walton uses the mystery genre itself to show how *wrong* her England is. There's something deeply disturbing about starting a classic country house mystery and having it end with the evildoers free and our sleuth-protagonists either fleeing for their lives or blackmailed into silence. "We need men like you in the Force. Men who won't rest until a case is solved, but who can let it go if that's what's necessary." Chilling.
a great ending to the first series!
Spoiler Alert Ok, the illustrations in this book are fabulous and incredibly moving. The ones of the dog, particularly so, BUT it's totally depressing. Heart-wrenching! The illustrator is just too good. Even though the ending is "happy", it's not certain if the dog gets to stay with the boy or not. Good god, don't share this with your children.

Loved it! It was fun to go back in time and then into the present day.

My top general reference book for Ballet. I've used it hundreds of times.
For Jane Austen fans and Regency buffs.
