Cute book showing the creativity and playfulness of children. As is often the case in the Charlie and Lola books Foxy realizes, by the end the story, the advantage of having a little sister.
Yuis is a 22 years old young artist. His work is strange, he is inspiring by his nightmares and no much people are interested in sell it. So he moves to New York and soon finds two persons interested: Felipe, a young man who believes himself descending from an ancient puertorican tribe, the Taino, and Albert, an old gallerist who obviously is more interested in the beauty face of Yuis than in his work. But also Felipe is enthralled by this young man, very feminine and innocent. Magic, superstition and perilious all expect Yuis in his travel to his native Puerto Rico, and also the strong feelings he is experimenting for Felipe, a man. Yuis is confused: he is still virgin and he has never felt like this nor for women or for men. It is lust, passion or maybe love? The story is very interesting, complex and with a growing plot. Felipe is a good character, but sometimes I'd like him more "man": he is physically strong but not at all at comfort with his sexuality, he still feels shame for the desire he has for men. Yuis is a spoilt puppy, ready to bite if someone try to near him. I like is naivete, but it feels odd in a 22 years old guy. In the development of the relationship I have preferred the next story by K.B. Forrest, Calor del Amor, but for the developtment of the plot, Taino Ti is in absolutely more complete and original. Both stories, have really strong yaoi element. http://elisa-rolle.livejournal.com/13...

Short, hot and sweet. Can't wait to read more by this author.
One or two good stories, but on the whole it didn't really grab me. However, I will try another Neil Gaiman book sometime.
A modern day epic, Middlesex has made it to my "Top 10" novels. The story of the intersexed Cal(liope) is at all moments heartbreaking, funny, and touching, thought-provoking but never sentimental. As I finished this book I felt as though I was losing a close friend. I want to stop people on the street and tell them to read this book. Sometimes books win the Pullitzer and you say, "okay, it's good for the intellectuals but who else is it good for?" This book is good for those looking for a light read or those searching for something more substantial. Eugenides, a master storyteller, has woven a story so complex...yet so simple.
Simply THE BEST mountaineering book ever written. Gripping, terrifying, shocking, heartwarming and amazing and true.

I love this collection of short stories. It was published long ago but still offers rich, innovating storytelling that most newer Chicana/o writers can't seem to properly recreate. Most of the stories are told in a non-linear manner, and require that readers "think outside the box" (e.g., what if when we die the moths that have been eating away at our soul fly out?). They are also poignant stories that capture the inner lives of women and present the competing issues that define these lives. Most of all, I wish more people would read works like this collection if they are interested in Chicana/o & Latina/o literature. These are stories are much more real than so many of those stereotypical tales that tend to sell big.
Very interesting look into a forbidden world.

Claire the librarian recommended this book to me. I really enjoyed it because i love fantasy and aquatic sea life. Lost voices was a gripping tale about mistreated girls who become mermaids. I personally loved Caterina (the leader of the mermaid tribe) as a character she was fierce vibrant and intelligent. But what i liked most about Caterina was that she had backbone. It seamed like she wasn't scared of anything and she wouldn't let anyone tell her what to do or who to be. But most of all she had a beautiful voice that took to the wind and brought peace and comfort to the mind of the readers.
A short book - about 200 pages - this is a memoir of the editor of many cookbook authors, including Julia Child. My favorite parts were when Mrs. Jones shared her philosophies about food and how it connects us to nature and to our history. She is also very encouraging about being inventive in using the items you have on hand and not worrying about following someone else's recipe. It is a bit like she has sat down with you in the kitchen to chat about her experiences, which are fascinating, but leave you wanting more.
