I bought this book after reading an excerpt of the five faces of oppression (one of her chapters) in a social justice reader I assigned as text in a class I co-taught. Then I only read the 5 faces chapter. Years later, I went through the entire book. While I typically disagree with making a concept such as oppression so essentialized, I like how Young took that and applied it throughout the book. This is an excellent read for those interested in social justice philosophy and for those who wish to better understand issues of social justice and equity.

Unbridled insanity, more so in the film, though. Fun to read if you enjoy nonsense.

This follow-up to the original Library Mouse is also a well-written story. I prefer the original one, but this one is very good too. The illustrations are very good. There are good messages in all the Library Mouse books. This one focuses on teamwork.
This Charles Dickens classic is doubly wonderful in its timeless tale of redemption. I would heartily recommend people read the book. I loved this novel right from the beginning. Dickens is engaging, and writes in such a descriptive way I felt like I was there with Scrooge on his journey. Charles Dickens looks at family, Christmas, community, poverty, wealth and personality, but in a light-hearted and engaging way. Dickens wrote this tale as a protest in 1843, against the, even then, growing obsession with material wealth, and neglect of life's freely given riches and today its message is as strong and apt as ever.

The story is very sweet.I loved the relationships between this young lady and those who raised her.Finding out she was an heiress was just the beginning to this fast paced adventure.

I love the bits and pieces that make up culture and history and so this book was right up my alley. The author Tim Walsh skillfully combines memory (his), nostalgia, and fact to write appealing short bios of popular American toys. His stated criteria for choosing the toys is The toys had to have sold at least ten million copies. The toy had to have been on the market for at least ten years. The toy had to have been invented by an outsider to the toy industry. The inventor had to be identifiable thus ruling out tops, chess, and other such classics. The toy had to have significance to me or my friends. I think my favorite aspect is how often he refers to the sensory qualities of toys especially the senses of sound and smell

An excellent novel. Well-written, and the usage of dialect didn't bother me. I'd really like to give it 4-and-a-half stars, just under my very top favorites. I was happy to see that the author is from Jackson, Mississippi; it adds some authenticity to her words. I liked her portrayal of the three main characters: Aibileen, the older, sensitive, motherly one; Minnie, smart-mouthed and brash but also a victim herself; and Skeeter, a naive young woman who doesn't realize the potential dangers for everyone involved with the book until it is too late to stop. Well done, Ms. Stockett.

faulkner had me as a seventeen year old in junior english when we read intruder in the dust. i love this man for two very important reasons: 1) he is from the south, writes about the south, loves the south, yet is the sharpest critic of its most obvious downfalls and 2) whenever i read this guy, i can't stop writing myself. his stream of consciousness tales get in my head, and i can do nothing but dribble out my thoughts in much the same fashion he does. i fell in love with his style with intruder; i often find it the most effective. grammar and punctuation often hinder the mind's ability to look under the words for their meaning. faulkner abolishes these grammatical laws and serves the story in a convoluted manner which mimics the story's events themselves, full of strife and taboos. bonus to this particular addition is the articles by noted southern historian c. vann woodward (known for his origins of the new south) in an essay entiled "the irony of southern history." the book is loaded with all sorts of academic supplements. read everything.
Not my favorite Erdrich, but a compelling story none the less. Familiar characters from past books.
