books like "the curious incident of the dog in the night-time" aren't easy to find. usually when a book tries to be different with some aspect, it makes you feel that it was the books only intention. but with this book this wasn't the case. throughout the book i was quite sure that i was reading a book which was not a fiction but a fact. i enjoyed every page. enough said
A fun read about a young woman who goes to Paris to be a summer nanny for 3 children, and her efforts to explore Paris, do a good job with her charges and their family, and decide where she fits in.

Loved this book. I thought it was an original plot. It made me think "what if". If I knew something was going to end badly, could I, would I try and change events?

I really love these books. They are about a boy who's parents are killed when he is a baby. He is liveing with his aunt, uncle, and cousin when he finds out that he is a wizard. He then goes to this school called Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry were he learns magic. He makes two people who he will he soon will be good friends named Ron and Hermione. His world is soon turned up side down when waird things start to happen. If you want to know more than you will have to read the book.
There was a point when I was going to rate this three stars because although it wasn't my jam, I could see the merit and that a lot of other people might enjoy it. But then I realized that this book (which I stopped reading at around the 80% mark) made me want to not read. And I don't mean it made me not want to read this book... it made me not want to read AT ALL. Literary fiction is not usually my thing, but ultra-dense prose with convoluted timelines and thinly-veiled "surprises" are definitely not my thing. At all.
This book was really intense. I am sad some of the characters died. It made for a very sad book. But, again the fighting scenes were great and it's always nice to have a little bit of romance. I can't wait for the next installment!
I picked up this book a few years ago after seeing Adaptation. I'd heard the book was not good, but I was curious. Looks liek everyone else has rated it well...I think I am inspired to put it on teh top of my to-read list!

Hilarious! I liked this guy because he was really smart, and not fake smart like a lot of people. My favorite stories were the one about him being interviewed by the army psychiatrist and also when he volunteered to be hypnotized. Ah! I think more people should be like him.

I was one of the lucky GoodReads members who received an advance copy of this book. I read it in 3 sittings as a) the action moves quickly, and b) I couldn't put it down. The premise is intriguing and I often found myself wondering how I would react if my kids were suddenly "gone". I could empathize with the grief and and sense of futility some of the characters experienced. On the other hand, I wanted to slap the "G.R.'s" until they screamed. Humanity has always struggled with the question of death, the end, and how to live life until it comes. Because the characters are so familiar and recognizable, we are able to jump right into their world and explore the differing responses to the loss, their struggles to make sense of the world, and how to carry on.
