I loved this book! read most of it in one day when I was *supposed* to be doing other things. The characters in this one cuold be real people dealing with real problems, and that is something I really like in contemporaries (series or otherwise). I loved that both the hero and heroine had tough things to face and neither one got off easy. they both had to change and grow and take a chance, and I don't always find that in romance. the secondary characters were awesome and an integral part of the story. I hope that some of them get their own stories in the future, there are two I would really like to see play out. The conflicts the hero, in particular, had to deal with weren't linked just to the heroine, but other events that had happened in his life. He had to come home and face things and be a grown up for the first time. We saw more than one side of the hericne, more than she showed in her daily life running the ranch and there was such emotion in seeing her go through those events, events that put her in a position so different that her 'normal' days.

So much better than DaVinci Code. I was entertained the whole way through this one. Even the seeminly impossible scenes were setup so that they did not read as such. Langdon's character was well-written and although much of the content was foreign, it was described in a way that was easy to follow. Still, things were not so thoroughly explained that they would take away from the story. The element of the ambigrams through the book was so interesting to me that I have since become a bit obsessed with making them myself.

Included in this volume are: Pyramid Shaped Diagrams! Exploitation by the Imperialists and Dictators! An inside look at the bourgeois agenda! Fake democracy and dirty tricks by the state apparatus! In other words, it's a bit like an oversized Lyndon LaRouche pamphlet. In spite of all this, Bergeron is an actual professor... (This book was also published as "Petit Manuel d'Histoire du Quebec.") For a more recent take by Bergeron there's a CBC radio debate available on the internet: "Historians Conrad Black and Léandre Bergeron couldn't disagree more about the controversial legacy of Quebec premier Maurice Duplessis. Was he a dictator? Did he have original ideas or was he merely a carbon copy of his predecessors? In this CBC Radio debate, Black and Bergeron argue about Duplessis's handling of the Asbestos strike and the Padlock Act. Insults of "cliché!" and "bourgeois!" are volleyed back and forth as the two historians bicker and banter." (source: CBC.ca) Such vehemence.

kind of uncool, super cheesy, and yes, i cried.
One of Kristin Hannah's better books...great read.
I wanted to like this book. The cover lead me to think it would be funny and insightful. Huh. Not so much. Though some of these "chapters" might have been good as stand-alone essays, they did not feel like a cohesive whole to me. In fact, some of the writing is only peripherally about mothering. IMHO, the author's sexual history just doesn't seem relevant here. I gave up after about 130 pages.
