Book #86 of 2009 And now I've come to the end of the BDB with an agonizing 7 month wait until the next one! At least I've got the BDB guide to peruse... I didn't expect to like Rehv. At all. Ever since that sehclusion attempt after Bella was kidnapped back in book 3... He's been on my short list of "characters that annoy me". BUT. Man did I change my mind. And its not just that I understand better why he took the steps he did to protect his sister and his identity. It was so much more than that... from the kindness and gentleness he showed to the females in his life to the decision he made about Wrath early in the book (which was obvious from the get go to me) to even the way he tried to protect the females that were afraid of him. He could be mean and brutal, yes, but it seemed like only when provoked. I think I'm going to like Lassiter, if there's more of him in future books. I read a comment once that J.R. Ward likes to put her characters through a lot. And somewhere in the middle of all of this ... I started to read more into just the individual characters. On the good side, we have a lot of torment. Wrath watching his parents die when he was young, Rhage and the Beast, Z being a blood slave, Butch and his sister, V and his father, Phury and the fallout from Z's kidnapping and enslavement, John and his past, Qhuinn and his mismatched eyes, Thor and him loosing Wellsie and his young.... But they're all out their fighting for their race and their king, a group that has each other's back even when they're miffed... And on the "evil" side, we have the fore lesser, who has always been afforded every opportunity. And he acts that way. And even the people (not lessers) he tries to deal with respond to his arrogance. So that all just started me thinking about how the "good over evil" theme was going on not just in the larger war, but in each individual character. How the trials they all went through made them stronger and more interesting characters. How the evil is represented not just by self serving jerks, but by self serving jerks who have always gotten what they wanted. Eh. Enough philosophy for one night. And now that I've reached the end of the road (for now), I can say that subplots are so much more enjoyable here at book 7 than they were at book 1. Although the thing is still riddled with silly grammatical errors, but I can deal. It was a good book. A strong addition. Fun.

** spoiler alert ** Elements and Style: Caroline uses great first perspective but in the book changes who it's coming from for a bit. It fits well with modern day time and creates a thick details to support main events. You have to pay attention to lots of little parts in the story. This story really was a great thriller and I just couldn't stop reading it. Characterization: The starting of this book Caroline creates slacker for her main character and you don't find him interesting. But then later in the story when Mitty starts to think he has smallpox you can see that his character changing into a harder thinker and he becomes real interesting. By the end of the book I found that Mitty was a totally different character and someone I might want to be. Plot: This book starts off with Mitty Blake a rich high school slacker procrastinating on a biology project on infectious diseases. So he starts looking for books on his topic which is smallpox and he finds an envelope with some old smallpox scabs that he touches and breaths in. The book then describes how he is thinking and realizes he might have smallpox. So Mitty goes online and posts questions about smallpox and how to treat it. He gets some messages back from different people and one wants to schedule a interview with him because they are currently in the same city as him which is Manhattan, New York. He is found by the person and is about to go in the car with them when he freaks out and starts running away but then he rethinks about it and turns around gets in the car and is hit over the head with a hard object knocking him out. He finds himself in a warehouse basement and has to outsmart his captors and then get out of the warehouse. When he does he turns out he doesn't have smallpox because the scabs where to old so the virus had already died. Though he did have to go to the hospital because of of the wounds his kidnappers had given him.
