I LOVE this book. I have read it over 10 times, and still love it. I have recommended it to everyone that I know. A friend of mine who does not like sci-fi - but I dared her to read it - really enjoyed this book.

I thought I was going to really hate the main character Solomon based on the title of the book. He was indeed arrogant/overly confident and at times he came off a bit self-righteous but overall there was something about him and his background that made me feel empathy for him. Although there were a few decisions he made that did seem cold and that literally made me cringe I never felt that they came from a malicious place or like he was this ruthless character with no redeeming qualities. There quite a few insightful moments as he started to come to terms with the effect that his choices were making not only on himself but all who were involved. Even though Solomon and his main love interest Michele both had past experiences that shaped their way of thinking in a negative way and that in effect caused them to be reluctant to trust the other, there was still something about their chemistry that had me rooting for them to make it work. I really enjoyed reading this one and honestly hated for it to end...

** spoiler alert ** I think that this was the best book I have every read. It teaches you about drinking and driving. It tells you that you shouldn't do it because it can cause a life of others and you can’t deal with that. If you a good friend you should always keep that person so they can help you or get you some help. It’s not good to keep that crash on your mind because it can cause you to do stupid things. If you have someone trying to help you shouldn’t let that person go. If you see a psychologist and he tells you to come back when you need help you should stay with that person if he’s helping you. You should never pick a fight with your best friend because he/she is always their for you. Never argue with your parents if their trying real hard to help you.

At times difficult to read because it was written like a fan fiction entry based on the 2005 movie. There is a lot of "adore you, love you, you are my sun, moon, my everything, etc." and that got tiresome. But as I have been always fascinated in what happens after P&P I gave it a go. It was still an easy read and only took a few days so not a waste of time I guess. :-)
This book really lives up to its title! I loved every part of the book, but the chapters with the non major characters were not as good.

A pretty sparse review of world football in the context of globalization. There are some neat insights though - in particular the sometimes contradictory relationship between capital, tribal identity and football. Too many of the chapters were focused on European football (taking brief pit stops in Brazil and America). This means that you missed out on learning about how the game is a metaphor for globalization in Asia or Africa.
It's taken me awhile to get through this book. Not because it's bad mind you. I enjoy the way it alternates between the interpersonal dramas of Franklin and Eleanor with the social/economic/political upheaval going on at the time. Two more weeks and I'll be done. Yay.

A real classic for historical romantics -- it has everything: war, birth, death, love, loss, and the ultimate Southern setting.

Es uno de los libros a los que regreso con frecuencia para encontrar en sus análisis la fuente de mi condición de mujer.
I actually just read "Lady Susan". It was interesting and fun. I loved the way it was written - in letter sytle. The ending was a little weak, but funny and satisfying. I really enjoyed it!
