The book starts out with the reveal and then flashes back to tell the story leading up to it. I found it frustrating as I constantly wanted to know what happened and wanted the book to move faster. The main character was somewhat sympathetic, but others were less so.

I liked this second book better than the first. The writing style often leaned toward poetry - an interesting technique which I sometimes found irritating (just tell me the story already! enough with the poetic imagery!) but it has an obvious basis in the text so I get why the author wrote it that way. By the end, the characters have changed dramatically and their world has, as well. Bravo!

I had higher hopes for this book than were realized. Seeing the movie first actually helped me focus better to follow along. The book was a little boring in spots, and didn't give me as many discussions on Austen as I'd hoped. I actually enjoyed the supplimental/historical additions at the end the best. Of course than's more my issue than the issue of the book. In time, perhaps I should revisit it with fewer preconcieved expectations.

I fear that the main characters are getting less interesting now that the sexual tension is gone. I'm seriously getting fed up with all the lovey-dovey scenes. =p Right now, I'm shipping Oliver/Amelie more than anyone else. Also, I really hope that Myrnin would just stop moping about his lost love. He's much cooler before the tragic love story angle.

A fun, light read with quirky characters.

I think this was my first Hoffman book and it's still my favorite (though I'm about to read seven more of her books so this may not be true next week).

I liked this a lot, I think. I liked the images of the hard landscape, and the voices of the outwardly simple characters. I have to say that until the very end, I wasn't really all that sure that Mattie even loved Ethan. I was very troubled by the ending. A) If you're going to do it, shouldn't you pick something a little more certain (you have to read it to know what I'm talking about)? and B) Was it Ethan himself that soured-up these women? Oh man, I am very conflicted. Like I said, I think I liked this.
even though this series is a quick read (finished this in 45 minutes) its still breath taking! ^^
I learned what it is like to live through a tornado. Jack and Annie went back to 1870 to experience pioneer life on the prairie. The pioneers had to build dugouts to survive the storms.
Yarı pişmiş John Irving rip.
