It's s good kids novel but I've read better. Also they should have told people! It's so frustrating when things would work out different if people just said what they should. I won't say more because I don't want to give anything away about the book. It's overall a good book and because it's a quick read I'll likely read the next one

First book of Picoult's where the beginning left me wanting, but it ended with a bang. Very good read.

Not really what I was expecting, having read a great deal of ancient travel-writing, such as the works of Pausanias and Strabo. Dalrymple seemed more interested in the stories of random people he met on his journey from Greece to Upper Egypt than in the landscape, monuments and settlements that he must surely have passed on his way, descriptions of which were what I had hoped for when I picked up this book. That said, the stories were interesting, and very eye-opening about the situation Christians in the Middle East face, although I'm sure modern historians would dismiss them as apocryphal compared to official records that tell a very different story, particularly since the same people frequently offer Dalrymple stories of the supernatural experiences they have had as well as their accounts of events in their lives. The other thing that led me to mark this down as I was rating it was the incompleteness of the account. Again perhaps my view is coloured by the ancient writers, who had a tendency to at least mention every two-house-hamlet they passed on their journey, and even derelict sites and monuments, even if it was just to give the name of the place, but Dalrymple left large gaps in his account of his journey, and I very much doubt that he did so because he saw and heard nothing on the way from Jerusalem to Alexandria or between Beirut and Jerusalem, for example. Apart from these complaints, however, this was a reasonably entertaining read. Dalrymple's style was engaging and he took the time to explain and expand on the background information that a reader would need to understand his views on what he saw on his journey but keeping it tight and relevant at all times. Overall it was a decent book, it just didn't live up to my expectations of what information I could get out of it. I definitely recommend it, however, for anyone studying Inter-Faith cooperation, modern Christian Sectarianism or subjects related to those two. This book will likely thoroughly shake up your world-view on these topics.

Relatively unoriginal folktale style stories. The real fun is reading Dumbledore's notes on the stories. Lot's of fun Hogwarts trivia, and some interesting details about the wizarding world.

This Book was about a girl named Aleria, who is color blinded. She loves to fence. Shes not sure where she belongs. She goes to High school where she meets this charming guy who is a chik magnet at the high school, but he has looks for Aleria. They become friend and get to know each other. At the end Aleria discovers she is a defender of this fantasy planet, that she doesnt know much about.Cstle that liked her, is an oger thats been taking contol of the fantasy planet Aleria is defending. Aleria figures she is a warrior or defender of this planet that she can see. I personally liked this book beacuse its a graphic novel. It takes place at a high school where she doesnt really know where she belongs, which gives this story a great deal of suspense and exitement. And the fencing sport that shes into gives this story great action. This story is very cool.

A lot about Frank Lloyd Wright that I didn't know.
Intriguing setup...not sure the dialogue was stellar and some parts were a bit unrealistic in particular the romance aspect.
I don't know where my original review went, so here's a new one, written a month and a half after reading this and with two other Oz books under our belts since then. This is one of the better Oz books, perhaps because there's so little of the actual "Oz" in it! The titular Scarecrow doesn't even show up until about two-thirds of the way through the book, though when he does I appreciate that he isn't able to rescue them with no effort; the deux ex machina comes from an entirely different source! I like the relationship between Trot and Cap'n Bill, the Ork is a fun new creature, and the conflict in Jinxland actually provides some tension. Based on concept alone, I have to give this book 5 stars. I ordered it for my oldest daughter a few years back from Scholastic, because, I had to admit, I wanted to read it. When her teachers saw it, they wanted to read it, too. Now I am passing a torn, taped and battered copy down to my youngest, hoping she will enjoy it just as much. There is something simply engaging about the bold, primary colours, the thick, glossy pages, and of course, the odd-shaped vegetables and fruits given more expression than one would ever think possible. Even babies will be entertained by this short volume for the lively colours and comic depictions of common facial expressions. According to the final page, the authors combed New York City markets for expressive produce. Armed with only an exacto-knife for carving and using basic materials such as black eyed peas (for the eyes) and organic dyes (for the mouths), they created the memorable characters that populate the pages of this book. Sure, the writing isn't the best, but that's part of its charm. I have to admire children for their frank, no-nonsense assessment of the world around them. The very young are not going to see any merit in literary brilliance, but instead will appreciate books that are silly, gaudy, or novel; three qualities undoubtedly found in How Are You Peeling?
I really wasn't sure what all the fuss was about
