I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I needed something light and not too brain-taxing. I thought the plot and the characters were interesting and I was only reminded every once in a while that I was reading a young person's novel or that an actual person would not have done what the author claimed, etc. I was engaged throughout the entire book. I would highly recommend it as a read-aloud with older kids or to read on your own if you need something fun. I hope to read the other books in the series sometime.

This story takes place over 40 years, from 1932 to 1972, in the southern United States. It centers around women in a family (5 women plus their maid). The chapters are written in their different voices. The book was a wonderful read, very easy to lose yourself in it for a couple hours. It's especially good if you like southern stories or stories that take place "back in the day", as I do.

After watching the movie, I thought this might be a good book and it was!! Loved the story and the characters. Some of the legacies between 4 & 6 were different from the movie, but the book was still terrific. I couldn't put it down. It was a pretty short read and then I started into the sequel...
