I gave this book 4 stars because I enjoyed the style in which it was written. It was reminiscent of "Room" in the sense that it is written from the point of view of a young narrator who is seeing the world in a way most of us don't. I feel like I can't say too much about this book without giving important plot twists away, so all I will say is that it is about a girl and her father and they live in a park. They enjoy being homeless, it is the life they prefer to live. When they are discovered (early in the story), the book suddenly becomes full of twists and turns and towards then end I actually found it a little scary. Not like horror movie scary, but the kind of scary where when you put it down you have that eerie feeling. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because there was information towards the end that I really wish they told the reader more about. However, the vague way in which they touch on certain subject matters is all part of the writing style, so I didn't mind too much. All in all, a good read, and once you get towards the middle of the story you won't want to put it down. I was home sick and finished it in less than 24 hours. :)

At first, I didn't care to much about the book mainly because of the weird plot and how the language was spoken. As we went along in the story and watched the movie, I became more aware and was able to understand what was happening during the story. I started to like the book and the movie and felt that "Twelfth Night" was something that opened me to wanting to read more books that took place in the same era. I would have started with a rating of 1 maybe 2 stars for this book, but after reading it I feel it deserves between 4 and 5 stars.

Meco, a former architect, used to be a "domer", one of those people who live in enclosed communities which rely entirely on technology for food, clothing, housing. Meco is turfed, that is thrown out of his dome, for a transgression - a punishment that is considered worse than death, since the land outside the domes is barren and dead. All of a sudden Meco finds himself forced to work the land for his daily handful of beans when he used to live a life I imagine pretty much alike to what we're used to, and he's not faring too well, living in a damp sod house, pulling his own plough and with only his devious neighbor Varas for company. Meco's being a turfed domer makes it unable for him to go to the taon, a human settlement, when he wants to buy a drag beast, so he sends Varas who, true to form, doesn't bring him an animal but two Novigi slaves. Meco hasn't it in him to own another person, human or not, though, so he sets Lys and Tywyll free on their first evening. Soon, he finds himself drawn into the strange bond that connects the two young men. Domers use to completely suppress their sexuality with chemical means. Cut loose from that, and with two sexually very active young men close by, Meco's own needs slowly awake, together with the land once the Novigi start working it. Lys and Tywyll do everything to include Mecon in their bond and into their love and care for each other and the land. And as the land changes, so does Meco, going from careful acceptance to friendship to lust until he's open for more, for a love and a deeper connection of his own, a connection he'll sacrifice everything for, even his life. This was a wonderful book. Meco's shy, compelling persona immediately captured my heart, and so did Lys, open, giving and generous, and Tywyll, who was determined, fierce and protective. I experienced Meco's slow development, his growth along with him, and cheered him on along the way. The writing was flawless, almost poetic at times, and the erotic scenes fit seamlessly into the flow of the narrative, occuring inevitably like the change of the seasons. A quiet book, despite the fighting scenes, and yet endlessly fascinating, an outstanding read. Can't recommend it highly enough.

This is the Gourmet Girl mystery series co-written byJessica Conant-Park and her mother, Susan Conant. Our heroine Chloe Carter tags along with her boyfriend chef Josh Driscoll as he films an episode of a "battle of the chefs"-style television series. They choose a random shopper at an upscale market to be the recipient of a home-cooked gourmet dinner, but the fun is spoiled when the shopper's wife dies a painful death during the meal. Josh is not a suspect, but having been the only person to witness the death, Chloe feels that she must discover whodunnit.
Whether or not it is a children's book it is a fabulous children's book and one that I would highly recommend! A fast, easy and fun read!

Another entertaining book from Dallas's own Mr. Clarke. Set in Baton Rouge...another place I've lived.
so stupid
Loved it so much! No wonder it is considered by some to be the national novel of modern Japan.
The writing of this novel was so poetic, I could read it forever. Astrid was such a well developed character I felt that I had known her and been with her every step of the way.
