This book wasn't too long, thank goodness. It read like a long magazine article to me. But the protagonist in the book McCandless just seems to be a smug prick who only really cares about himself. The set up to this book makes him out to be some smart, gifted, talented guy who yearns for freedom from the shackles of society. Oh please...if you're that gifted and talented and SMART, you'd know going out into the wild and unknown you'd like to be prepared to handle that environment. I have friends in the Army and when they do their parachute jumps into the Laurentian forest in the middle of winter and their goal is to find their way back to base. They have told me if the most prepared soldier can sometimes crack. It's very hard on the system to survive in extremes. But the author makes him out to be some misunderstood person who wants to have no society or conform to society's rules. Guy burns up all his money, but yet we find him working at McDonalds to earn a living. If he was all that talented and gifted and smart...I think he should have used those talents and smart into something more worthwhile...like the Peace corps or volunteer to do something worthwhile to make the world a better place become selfless which will can lead you to freedom from the so called shackles of society. Instead we get a selfish person who endangers himself and leaves behind friends and family that cared for him.

I wouldn't say I "really liked it," as 4 stars supposedly indicates, but I learned a lot from this book, mainly what I'm SUPPOSED to be doing as a teacher. Okay, I suppose I do differentiate somewhat, but according to this book, not much. The book is overwhelming, which is why I give it 4 stars. They do encourage you to start small, though, and with their organizational and management techniques, I could see this program working very well.

Probably my least favorite of the trilogy, but I still enjoyed it. It just seemed to drag a bit in places and I felt like the end of the war was a little anticlimactic. But I did like the way it ended.

great
I actually liked this book. Like most of Palahniuk's work, it highlighted the darker sided of humanity that lies inside of all of us (to some extent). While each of the characters went to extremes in each of their stories, it still shows what all of us are capable if we want something bad enough. We're all "haunted" by the ghosts of our past decisions. True, all of the stories did have a similar voice, but I don't think that really detracted from the over all plot. I think he helps emphasis the point that the characters are all the same person (and any person) at the core.

That Hayden chapter nearly killed me. Obviously not as good as the first, but still a lot to love. I'm excited for the conclusion next year.

Clary & Jace have a problem with their relationship. No surprise... Simon is trying to figure out himself & his place in life. More interesting. Really liked how Clare has bits of the Infernal Devices in the story. There really shouldn't have been another book. Love her writing though.
