Eh... Has some high-modernist leanings; reminiscent of Virginia Woolf at times (especially Jacob's Room in terms of theme and style), but... well.. a touch boring. Assigning this to freshman (which had been my hope) would be suicidal.

Interesting story from military perspective. Commitmented to his men. Very powerful story. Very thought provoking.
A selection from the syllabus of Mrs. D'Agostino's 9th grade English class

One of my favorite, so heartbreaking. I love Rahel & Esta and feel so sorry for them at the same time :((.

Why did Dumbledor have to die?
This is the second in the Soho series (chronologically) and picks up seven years after Trouble in Paradise with the focus centered on Rosa, the baby Zelda foresaw as coming into Bert and Maggie's life. While Tarts doesn't have that intense pull that Paradise did, I still couldn't put it down for all the drama that rose up around our Rosa. Charlie Fluck is back and he's the main source of the threats against her as well as one of the methods by which we learn of Cassandra's background. I can see this background and the corporate control it teeters over continuing onto a third novel...please??!?!!! I suspect most parents would find Rosa's childhood absolutely appalling and, I cannot disagree that Rosa learns a lot about the seamy side of life that I would prefer children never learn but she is being raised with such an incredible amount of love by a huge circle of friends that I can only wish that more kids had her opportunities. She is loved. She is cared for. She is protected by a neighborhood. Kids today should be so lucky.

This book is currently on loan to a friend who suffers with this currently. Basset puts forth a classic analysis that is essentially Cognative Therapy. God allowed me to go through this and it has allowed me to help others in the process. I regularly loan out this book and probably should buy a few copies. It helped me better understand what I was going through at the time (I don't suffer with it much at all and I'm no longer on any medications for it) and it was a step toward my recovery.

I found this at the library and I'm just loving it. I love the descriptions in the book. I feel like I'm in Provence.
