This book was amazing. Filled with agony and wry acceptance, Didion describes the process of becoming a widow by weaving the (amazing!) life she and her husband shared with her new life as a widow. It is a simply wonderful book. Didion is my new role model for writing--she is remarkably stylish, powerful and hard to put down.

This was a great book! Especially if you like historical fiction - it's about the family of Jacob in the Bible. In case you don't know this, Jacob's sons became the 12 tribes of Israel (I think), and his wives were Rebekah, Rachel, Leah, Bilhah, Zilpah. I think there was only one daughter, Dinah. SO the story is told from Dinah's pov and is about these women, which is awesome bc the women in the bible don't get a ton of face time, and it's just a really interesting interpretation of a pretty important biblical story. I love that kind of stuff. Anyways, it's good. I can tell you more about it if you want to know. I recommend it.

I've never liked Wells. This is the first of his books I've been able to force myself to finish. I didn't love it but it was FUNNY! My friends, no doubt smarter and more learned than me, told me the book contained social commentary, that Wells was a socialist with an agenda of showing the superiority of that type of system. Poor Mr. Polly seems to wander around with no aim, his past, with a dead mother and an emotionally absent father provides no support and he stumbles into his future with no clear goal in mind. He puts one foot in front of the other. He's also cantankerous, not easy in his relations with others. This causes him no end of troubles but that provides much of the the humor. Through a small inheritance he's able to set up shop and marry but he puts no effort into either shop or wife. He prefers to read all day in his lonely shop and pick fights with first one neighbor and then the next until he's alienated all of them. Is this where socialism comes in? Free trade = bad, leads to discontent and alienation? Then he finally goes too far and creates a catastrophe but for once makes it work for himself. He leaves shop and wife and finds, eventually, a place he feels he belongs, where he can relax and watch sunsets, feel content. But the best part of the book and what made it worthwhile for was the slapstick comedy.

Just like the last book i had no problem at all becoming part of the world that Cassandra Clare created. I was drawn in and it was eaily to follow i really felt like i was right there with them ever step of the way I loved and hated these character Jace with his snarky sense of humor thid guy loves hard he may show it in the strangest way but you can tell he'll go through anything for the people who care about sometimes he can be a complete ass but you can see right away thats just the way he hides all the pain he's been dealing with since he was just a little boy. Clary was a hard pill for me to take this time around sometimes she came off a bit selfish and acted like a complete brat but gah she also has a pure hard and trys so hard to please everyone but she goes about it the wrong way someone also left hurt, but even by the end of the book i can tell she on her way to growing up a bit. Izzy is a take no prisoner badass she the girl most girls love to hate strong beautiful and funny, and she loyal to a fault family is family to her no matter what she'd do anything for her family. Alex, is so complexed he's a bit confused but doesn't let that hold him back he's trying to figure it out. Magnus is sooo colorful he's the comedy relif he's a crackup and i think he may be my favored person in this whole series he's so easy to love. simon i swear i had so many issues with this guy in this one i kinda was put off by his pushiness and his need to be. Clary everything and not knowing when to back off but by the end i think what he did i couldn't even deny it made him a strong person.

So this book made me wanted to adopt a dog right away. I like dogs already and like NYC and New Orleans and people who can describe animals and places with heart. However, normally, short stories are not my thing. I loved this book though. Somehow the short stories were woven together with a continuity that held my attention.
