I think I was expecting too much from this book......it was good, just a bit overdone. I thought the author decided she needed to hurry up the ending because it took so long to get there and then whoosh it was done within 40 pages. Her fictional thoughts are interesting about John and Jesus, but I didn't find her "evidence" convincing in the way Dan Brown's evidence was convincing in Da Vinci Code (as far as evidence of John and Mary). The afterward was also interesting in that the author believes she is a direct decendent. Good for her but a bit full of herself.

Wow. I read this book in one evening. I haven't done that in quite some time. I really, really enjoyed it. The first chapter was a bit of a drag, but after that I was hooked. It's about this boy, Alex, whose mother is dying of cancer, so he gets sent to live with his reporter/adventurer grandmother. She takes him along on a trip to the Amazon in search of a mythical Beast. Alex discovers that, far from just tagging along, he has a definite part to play in saving the People of the Mist, the last Indian tribe to remain untouched by civilisation. I loved it, it was awesome. I'll definitely be getting my hands on the sequels.
** spoiler alert ** A few years ago I read and much liked this author's Deviant Ways. How amazing, I thought, that the prominent science journalist could write such an effective, original -- and, as I recall, pretty darned sexy -- thriller. So I bought this one. Much disappointed by it -- it's the standard tale of the sassy female investigator, here a Boston cop, who's on the trail of the serial killer who wrecked her childhood and now seems to have started up again, threatening her once more, imprisons his victims in an underground labyrinth, proves to be the uptight FBI asshole supposedly investigating the case, ya-de-ya-da -- I checked up and discovered there are two Chris Mooneys, and this is the other one. I can't help feeling I've been the victim of a bait-and-switch. From here on I'll stick with the nonfictional CM. Deviant Ways was good, though: let me not take that away from this author. Meanwhile we have this mensurational nightmare, proof that Atria don't bother copyediting: . . . near the bottom of the floor was a rectangular-sized hole . . . (p307)

I really like this book but I HATE JACOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really like this book! The 1st time through it made me really sad and I didn't care for it but the next couple times it grew on me...big time!
A great emotional book on how to live life to one's happiness and how to spread that happiness to others. In a way it is like a self help book (which style of book i do not like at all), but Pausch knows how to let the reader decide how to live themselves. He merely suggests what worked for him and the reader can take what they like and leave the rest, and he lets you know that right up front. This is a great read for anyone going through a hard time, and since I am in the field, i think artists should definitely read this book...for obvious reasons.

Graham Greene has stock characters - the corrupted (or corruptable) man who scoffs at a naive younger man whose zeal ultimately destroys the older man, the evil but civilized (African, Mexican, Asian) thug, the woman loved by two men with different motives, the pink gin. And stock themes - Catholic redemption, love as an irrestible trap, search for personal peace in time of war, pink gin. Yet they feel like familiar old friends and ideas rather than stale cliches.
The cartoon like illustrations will appeal to a young audience. With very few words this book tells the tale of a chimp who does not want to go to bed. “Yes” and “No” are in a big and bold text just like the emotions. Early Literacy Skills: Narrative Skills Print Awareness Print Motivation

Nota Bene: Forrest is not reading Teatro Grottesco. He's re-reading it.

This book was lovely. Yolanda is such a great character. Despite her hardships in life and being out-of-the-norm and teased, it just makes her braver and stronger. The story is great! It really reminds you that sometimes younger people are right. Also that you should try to understand people: I really felt felt for Andrew! I'd really recommend this to pretty much anyone. It was a great book.
