I could not listen to anything but punk for weeks after reading this. It reads like they actually have everyone all in a room discussing what it was like with Andy Warhol or at CBGB or whatever. It's like NYC at that time was just a big high school. Very funny and very interesting.
fairly interesting, but not as good as Molakai. :(

A beautiful book. Read this slowly and devour every last word. Written in touching fragments, which only added to the beauty.

In his book, Moustafa Gadalla describes the close connection between Ancient Egypt and the rest of Africa. He contends that as invasions caused disruption, loss of influence and religion for the indigenous populations of Ancient Egypt, many of them migrated to other parts of Africa. Through an analysis of political organisation, religion, linguistics, art, architecture, oral tradition, division of labour, historical records and more he shows that the cultural similarities between Ancient Egypt and the rest of Africa are very close. The book includes a history of Egypt from the Old Kingdom to the Arab/Muslim invasion. We follow the traditions of many modern African people (including the Akan, Yoruba and Dogon) and highlight cultural similarities to the Ancient Egyptians. Even in modern day Egypt he cites the presence of Sufism and a number of festivals which whilst appearing on the surface to be Islamic are rooted in the Egyptian past. Whilst Ancient Egyptian migration alone cannot explain the commonality of culture practised across the African Continent, this book is definitely recommended reading for anyone interested in African history.
Odd - very odd. First Pahlaniuk novel I've read.

I read this several years ago and can't remember much of it ... which tells me it wasn't that interesting a book. Probably an okay read in the early teen years but I didn't care for it much. I think King is a hard man to beat in the horror genre.
I'm a fanatic!

After reading the back cover of this novel I was excited to read it, especially since it's been awhile (far too long) since I've read a Stephen King book. The concept was new to me, at least - an author had died leaving his wife, Lisey, to deal with crazy man who wants to essentially steal his unpublished works. But the author, Scott Landon, had an imaginary place that he and his wife could physically go to, and it's there that Lisey will find the answers to help her survive. The novel contained a lot of flashbacks, so many that at times it was hard to know where in the story I was. In addition to that, it was a little repetitive and drawn out. After getting to page five hundred tonight I decided to chug through the last one hundred fifty or so pages so that I could move on to a new book. But on the plus side, the book had characters with real problems and the plot line on the whole was great. The whole thing came togethers smoothly in the end when the crazy man is dealt with Lisey find her story and learns the whole truth about her husbands past. On the whole, a decent read.
I expected more depth in His Eyes. Sadly I got this whole unnecessary mess with the ex girlfriend. I had a hard time believing a girl could pull Tristan out of depression. I mean, come on,you are a teenager, full of life, and something like that happens to you out of blue...Let's be realistic. Life is not a freaking fairytale. My grandma is blind so I remember when it happened to her she was down for so long. And when I read a book like this it makes me want to smash my PlayBook.
