The book was okay. It was nice to see such a strong, independant female character. The last 2 pages almost ruined it for me though. The whole bit about what the characters are doing in the future... yeah, that whole part was very "cheesy" and completely uneccessary. If she wanted to leave the story for another book she should have just left it for another book and not mentioned it. Otherwise the book was fine.

This is a new take on the Dracula myth and boy, did it stink. I had high hopes for this one after reading the inside jacket, but I was never able to connect with the main characters and the plot was just too boring after the first couple of chapters. Major disappointment.

I liked this much more than I anticipated. Perhaps it is the literary references and the subtle humor. For a sort of quiet book there is a lot going on and I enjoyed the relationship between Isabel and her, her niece Cat, Jamie (niece's hopeful ex), and the no-nonsense housekeeper. I also liked Isabel's compassion to Neil at the end. I think this is a series I will enjoy.

Lots of good paragraphs of reality & commentary in this book. He delved into the individual, family & community histories, but I think if he had partnered with a set of social scientists (sociologist, public policy and econ), even just in end-(or foot-)notes to delve more into the societal/political why, this could have been a truly impacting book.
