Loved this story! Can't wait to read book two and three! My son was urging me to finish the book quickly because he wanted it next. It didn't take long to demolish the book as the pages were turning quickly, especially after the games started. I recommend for 5th/6th/7th and above to read this series.

Good story but it got too bogged down in unimportant details. Toward the end I felt like Roth rushed the story which left me feeling let down. If the book had half the number of words it does, I might have given it 4 stars.
This book clarified the reality of Afghanistan life today and the what the people have endured, especially women. It also piqued my interest about a country I previously knew nothing about with the exception of what news agencies report. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about another culture and to realize how much we Americans take our freedoms for granted.

Announcement: turns out this book is very very good. Hard at first, but The New Bloomsday Book: A Guide Through Ulysses helps a LOT to get you started, and I think the whole second half is like coasting downhill. Among the many things I didn't expect was how much pathos the characters had; Bloom is a sweetheart and a dreamer, Stephen is sad and wild, Molly is complicated and alive. I think my top favorite episodes/chapters were Circe, Ithaca and Penelope. But I loved The Wandering Rocks, Nausicaa and The Sirens, too. Basically it's beautiful and filthy and complex and amazing. If anyone else has read this or is going to, let me know -- I'm desperate for people to talk to about it! ** I'm twittering my way through this. twitter.com/readingulysses This time, it's personal.
Light, quick and kinda kinky...
Westerfeld is all about moral ambiguity. This is what makes him interesting as a teen author. ut, in this case he makes characters turn against themselves as it suits his plotlines. Its like he was just trying to sum things up so he just invented what he needed to get there. It's especially disappointing because the resoultion at the end had so much potential had it been explored in more depth and played more of a role in Tally's decision-making through-out this book.

This is a very clever book. Unlike many attempts to write in the 1st person plural, Ferris manages it without major awkwardness. It begins with the ethos of (The) Office(Space), but digs unflinchingly into the tragedy of many office dwellers. Hijinks are paired with devastating layoffs, clever ways to cover slacking are foiled by a woman's inability to face cancer. Ferris explores how the necessary attitude that one needs to get through office life works in personal and family life. It exceeded my expectations, despite how much I hated the last sentence.

Another great book by this author!
had no clue about alot of this stuff; makes me view back home completely differently - could be more stars if it was written better/more engaging
