A young woman who's spent her whole life surrounded by historical works (her family owns an antiquarian bookstore) is summoned by a beloved, prolific, reclusive author to write her biography...and tell the true story of her life for the first time in nearly fifty years. Of course that life has been dark & strange, with old houses, family secrets, forbidden passions, ghosts and every other element a gothic romance needs. In the process of recording the author's story the young biographer has to confront a dark secret of her own. Now I've never read Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights, but this modern take on such stories had me hooked just a few chapters in. The atmosphere is killer (sometimes literally) and the mystery will keep you guessing until the very end...then make you gasp. There are some provocative elements, including sadism, incest & murder, but I suspect the graphicness isn't much more than what you'd find in nineteenth century gothic tales.

This book was as bland and unrealistic as the first. The only way in which they differentiate is that Lee and Ellie decide to make love in the middle of a war zone.
I love David Sedaris! So funny and heartfelt.

They gave general tips that most of us already knew, but this book is a good wake up call. It was beautifully, humorously, written, and I find it cute! If u are a girl, and u find it hard to get over him, try read this book. But my advice is ,do read He Just Not That Into You (Greg) first. Although u might find it sort of repetitive, but I still think it worth yr money. I will keep this book, in case i will have to go trou a break up again in future. lol Right now, my heart is mend and I only able to relate to it 80%. :p
Many of the themes in "Fast Food Nation" return here, particularly in the section on migrant labor: Reading it, you quickly become aware of the corner into which our economy has backed itself. As is the case with the fast-food industry, the low costs we take for granted are only possible at the expense of the workers who produce these products. The section on pot is particularly disturbing as well; among other things, it's yet another reminder of what a disaster mandatory minimum sentencing laws have created in the penal system, and what terribly thought-out political window dressing these laws are. I know you don't want to read it, but really, please do.

I really liked this book. Very good read.
Orson Scott Card is hit or miss for me, I either love it or hate it, rarely in between. I just thought this one was a little odd, and more crude than necessary.
I bet you didn't know Lewis was a sci-fi author. It's interesting what he's trying to do in this book. This is not his best work by any means but a fun read.
Learned about Venice's high water season and saw the mafia in action. It's interesting how some of these guys can be art collectors as well as brutal killers.
One of the great hardcore SF novels.
