I love reading Dr. Seuss books with my class. It exposes them to rich language full of rhyming, rhythm, alliterations and tounge twisters. These are good books for early readers because they contain many sight words.
Maybe my favorite of the People's Almanac books. Minneapolis will be capital of the United States by 1999!

lloyd alexander just died on May 17th, apparently. (NYT obit: [http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/19/art...]) I loved this series as a kid. Like way more than narnia even, I think. In honor of both the author & 8 year old me, I think I will reread the series again this summer.
3.5 stars. As is typical for Maggie Stiefvater, this book is beautifully written. The story itself was interesting, but didn't grip me right away. As it progressed I liked it more, though, and I was happy with the way it ended. My biggest complaint is that I would have loved to have a little more of the romance aspect of the story. What was there was good, but it left me wanting more!
Ahhhh. Is it just me or was this almost impossible to get into. The first 150 pages were literally agony. And then it did get better...kind of...with the insertion of the usual dystopian love triangle. Admittedly, Julian is a bit dreamy but he is no Alex. Still don't know how I feel about it at all. Just a bit manipulated.
Cute little book and surprisingly modern, despite having been written in the 1930s. And you have to love a book with a character named Topaz in it! I wavered between rating this a 3 and a 4. There were times I just loved the book, and even a few times I laughed out loud, but then I found other parts definitely lagged and were hard to get through. Overall, though, a fun read with an engaging narrator.

Odd ball book, may take a little to get into it. Has the best twist I've ever encountered- probably better than fight club's. The author makes use of a great vocabulary.

I feel like I could read Donna Tartt write about grass growing. I really loved reading this book. It's one of those books that will swallow you up. The precocious girl is great. The first ten or so pages should convince you to read the whole thing.
