This is a stunning look at the lives of women in Afganistan and also taught me a lot about the roles of women and the recent history of the nation. It was a quick read that shocks you, but not shocking enough to make you cry or stop reading. This coupled with the Newsweek articles on the progress of women really make me want to save the world more than ever and make an meaningful impact on the lives of women around the globe. It often baffles me how behind some nations are in 2011.

It has been over a year since Doug, our protagonist, lost his wife Hailey in a plane crash and Doug's life is still in a shambles. His twin sister Claire has just left her husband and moved in with Doug; his sister Debbie is about to get married to Doug's former best friend - whom she met at the shiva for Hailey; and his stepson Russ's behavior is spiraling out of control. And Doug can't seem to get through his grief to the other side. "How to Talk to a Widower" follows Doug's journey back to the living as he learns to deal with family crises, rebuild his relationship with his stepson, and step foot back into the frightening world of dating. Tropper writes characters that remain very likeable - even through some situations that you might find morally questionable - and you'll find yourself rooting for them to work it all out. I enjoyed the greater majority of this book, although some of it has a very somber tone - a book about a man grieving his dead wife can only be so funny. My biggest quibble is that the end seemed to drag on a bit, particularly through a dangerous situation that I personally found highly implausible, and which seemed somewhat out of place in the story. Still, I would recommend to anyone looking for a well-written piece of touching, hopeful fiction.

STARCROSSED, by Josephine Angelini is fast paced, unbelievably hard to put down, and overall absolutely amazing. Full of action and romance, comedy and fallouts, this is one that is hard to forget. The Delos family moved to Nantucket and everyone was booming about it! I loved that, so often you see and meet just one lone amazingly gorgeous stranger, but instead a whole, HUGE family comes to town, and I think one of my favorite things about reading this is the family atmosphere was so clear and really strong. Every single character was incredibly family oriented and it gave the book a warm feeling. I was absolutely amazed at how wonderfully Josephine Angelini went into detail during the fight scenes. I felt like I was there and could imagine exactly what it felt like to be hit by a big demigod who loved to fight! It was excellent. Helen and Lucas are perfect! I love both of their personalities and their relationship, and how it progressed without seemingly going anywhere. Their relationship has twists and turns, fights and true and tragic love. Helen and Lucas have become my new favorite couple. Starcrossed is one of the best books I have read in a very long time and I am anxious for the next one to come out. Angelini has me hooked and I don't mind at all. I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone.

Boneshaker, while a riveting read and containing well developed characters, I found to be rather a let-down at the end. Many threads that could have been tied up were left dangling. (view spoiler)
Decently entertaining, but it gets tangled up in itself and lost track of it's own story from time to time. All in all, an entertaining retelling of Rapunzel.
Series is still pretty good. I've been flying through these books, can read one in maybe a day and a half. This book started getting a bit romance-y in parts, and what's up with the cover art?!
Better than the first book which hd so many holes I threw it across the room. The author is finding her voice so I am going to try out the 3rd book.
I really enjoyed this book. Definitely a turn towards the end I was not expecting. I liked the reality of this story and related to the main character Emma as I read through her life. It is a little funny, sometimes, sad and a true love story we can all relate to. Reminded me of times in college and of unrequited love and silly crushes. Makes me want to make a mix tape!
HAHAHA that is all i could do in this book. The fights and little talks that the two siblings have are great. Makes the book very humorous. It had a very good concept and i liked how everything fit together one way or another. Can't wait to get my copy of The Throne Of Fire.

I book from my adolescence that I picked up again last year. Enjoyable, but I recall the transition between the first and second book was too abrupt and that was a rough start.
