A magical love story in true latin American story-telling form. Set in Mexico weaves family, love, and receipes into a really enjoyable read!

This is an important book to read to give one a feel for the proper use of statistics and scientific studies. We are bombarded with stats and studies and it is hard to tell the difference between authentic and dubious results.

THIS WAS A GOOD STORY BUT WAS DIFFICULT FOR ME TO READ WHEN THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT THE MISSING AND EVENTUALLY MURDERED LITTLE BOY. THIS WAS SUCH A TRAGEDY AND THE MOST DEADLY FEAR OF EVERY PARENT AND GRANDPARENT. THE WRITER TURNS THE STORY AROUND FOR SOME GOOD TO COME OUT OF THE SITUATION BUT IT WAS A LITTLE TOUGH FOR ME TO GET THROUGH.
It was a short and somewhat moving read, but I thought it was a little predictable.
Told from the perspective of multiple women, this book was riveting. Aibileen and Minny the 'colored' domestics each brought a different view of their roles and sense of self as maids in southern households during the late 50s and early 60s. Miss Skeeter, the white woman who was compiling a book showcasing the thoughts, feelings and life experiences of the help in Jackson, Mississippi, finds that she not only learns about these women's lives but much about herself and the women she has been friends with forever. I love books told from the point of view of several different people and this one definitely didn't disappoint.

Great book for early teens. Has a great message on self esteem and high school...From a boys point of view.

I picked this up on a recommendation, and ending up realizing one of the countries this "grump" visited is Qatar, which is where I'm headed in a few weeks. The book is an exploration of happiness and it seems Weiss discovers what my mom always told me: money doesn't equal happiness. This provided lots of thought about what it takes to make me happy -- and why it should take anything at all, given all the blessings in my life. It'd be a great book club read.

I absolutely adore this book. It totally floored me--really blew me away. The moment I closed it, I wanted to open it and read it again. The voice, the characters, the cultural backdrop...truly spectacular!

This is one of those books I started a while ago and haven't quite finished. I am hoping to finish it so it isn't sitting around all the time. It is pretty long and somewhat monotonous, but since I am already about halfway, I am trying to finish it.
