I really respect this author and thought she did a great job of laying out the history of these three religions in an interesting and very palatable way. It really helped me understand the evolution of christianity especially.

The Algaliarept plotline leaves me cold, but the world and its inhabitants remain fascinating. Kisten and Rachel are hot together, and it's nice seeing Rachel feeling free to enjoy herself. David the were is an interesting addition to this world, as are the details about Rachel and Trent's joint past.
The final and best of the Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman trilogy (the longest as well). Aidan's Darcy voice is still strong. And I've always wanted to know just what he was thinking when Elizabeth turned up at Pemberley.

This is my favourite book by the team of Niven/Pournelle (yes, I'm aware that Steven Barnes also co-wrote this). It is set 200 years in the future at the site of mankind's first interstellar colony. Roughly 200 of mankind's best and brightest volunteered be cryogenically frozen to undertake this 100 year journey - and in doing so colonized an uninhabited planet far from Earth. However the cryogenics were far from perfect and dozens of colonists suffer from side effects such as lowered intelligence. Settling a nearly lifeless island, the colonists become complacent about security until livestock starts disappearing and the colony suffers damage from an unknown entity. This forces the lone security officer to take charge and do his best to prevent mankind's first interstellar colony from being wiped out.

I enjoyed Nick Hornby's style of writing, but wasn't as into reading about British football as I don't know anything about it (the players, places, etc). I am definitely looking forward to reading another Hornby book.

This book had its pluses and minuses. On one hand, it was interesting to get a glimpse of a poor, southern, African American community in the midst of the civil rights movement. On the other hand, so many characters remain static that there is little learned from the book. Moreover, the author's writing style is extremely uneven. At times, it's written in the vernacular of the setting, probably for effect, but at other times, is written in high language. The constant back-and-forth writing style made it difficult to maintain pace while reading, and I often got lost in lengthy descriptions. It was an OK book, but I'd likely not read it again.
As someone who grew up at the very, very end of the Cold War, this novel feels dated, but whatever it lacks in contemporary relevance it makes up for by remaining relevant in a historical context. Well written (as one would expect from a Modern Library Top 10 novel), stark, and appropriately depressing given the subject matter.
Literacy skills: Print motivation-The silly pictures are engaging for children which promotes a love of reading. Phonological awareness-This book goes through the plethora of sounds a dog makes.

I'm a fan of Tim Lebbon's Berserk, but this book barely held my interest. Any story that starts off with a snowstorm and a lanky, greasy hitchhiker is OK in my book, but it was all downhill from there. The characters were irritating, especially darling Nikki and her sexual obsession with her psychopathic heartthrob, Brand, who kept popping up at her band rehearsal and keg party. Was I reading a horror book or watching 90210? The mother is a shallow religious nut and the dad is a mewling, wimpy thing who keeps his testicles in his wife's nightstand drawer. The only time I perked up was when Brand was murdering the townfolks. What does that say about me or this book? I won't let this book deter me from reading Lebbons other books, though.
