I wasnt liking it. Like Toamto Red, the characters, the locations were maybe just too foreign and i wasnt connecting with them. Some of it was interesting but at the end I just felt empty of any real sympathy or empathy. Then I saw the movie, and its utter abandonment of the finer details about the novel that I had liked -- the weather [oh, how they could have used the weather!]; Ree's preference for skirts and her coat; the details of her eye; Teardrop's face; the army; and the drugs, especially the drugs, which gave the novel a rawer edge, a sense of motion and tension, heighened fear of the characters, an underlying whiff of permanent, utter danger-- were missing, flattening the storyline, making me care even less if that's possible, and leaving me searching for the details even as I saw they were not going to be there. The movie made me realize that there had been parts about the book I really had latched onto, let in, absorbed. The devil is in Woodrell's details, but the god of prose is too, I suppose.

What a delightful pick me up read this was! Author Marianne Mancusi has a lively first person voice in her writing of NEWS BLUES! Her writing voice is so realistic to the character Maddy. Maddy's emotions really showed through, the humor, the sadness, the fear, and even those mixed feelings as she dealt with work, family and love. Bringing the family issues, inside the television studios and the suspense of the private investigation that Maddy and Jamie were involved in, made for a exciting read, one that had me constantly thinking about the characters and story of NEWS BLUES long past when the book was done! The hero, Jamie, was too one that was so much a comfort to read. He was a romantic guy who was also fun but too reserved as he dealt with so many decisions he had to deal with, without wanting to hurt those he loved. With the family problems, especially those of Maddy's sister Lulu, I couldn't help as a reader, feeling so much for her and Maddy and Jamie as they went through times and emotions so many of us too are dealt with in our lives. I was often smiling (especially with those needs of those fake handbags for Maddy!), near tears and having my heart race with this book and this story will stay with me for a long time to come. Even time after finishing this book, many scenes remained with me and I could picture Maddy and Jamie's future together. NEWS BLUES was one suspenseful contemporary, lightly humorous and romantic read that I know when I see this authors name on a book in the future, I'm definitely picking up Marianne Mancusi's to read.

A Book On Writing Thư viện Sách hướng dẫn

I thought this book was entertaining and light (as light as a story about the antichrist and armageddon can be). It had hysterical parts, but it also had parts that dragged too slowly. The humor was often understated, so I suspect a lot of it went right over my head unnoticed. The writing was great, and there was more to the book than initially met the eye in terms of philosophical questions like destiny and good vs. evil. I’m not quite sure what it was about them, but I adored the quirky characters of Aziraphale and Crowley. Their friendship was the best part of the book in my opinion. I don’t really understand how two authors co-wrote this story, so I plan to read books by both Gaiman and Pratchett to get a better feel for each of them individually.
