This used to be one of my all-time favorite books, but it wasn't quite as appealing to me the second time through. I still recommend it, though, because it is well-written, and because it offers a wonderful mixture of emotions. I felt happy, sad, angry, hopeful, relieved, awed, inspired, et cetera. It is definitely worth reading. . . . I also think the layout is interesting - you are offered multiple perspectives on the same situation because the chapters rotate between characters. Each character is unique, and thus sees the family's circumstances differently.

I know this is a classic and everything, but I had a hard time getting into it. I have always thought this book was interesting, but I have to say, I like the book "1984" much better. It is interesting the perception of what the future holds. I would like to say that it isn't possible, but it is... everything seems possible these days.

I actually sobbed out loud while reading this book. I've grown up with labs as dogs, fortunately none as troublesome as Marley - but all the good bits are there too. I smiled and laughed and cried because of this book.
