I don't know that I would call this a travel book so much as a traveloir. Peter Mayle recounts his first year living in Provence with funny anecdotes about the place, the people, and the food. Oh the food. This book made me want to grab my passport and go to Provence just so I could live in a culinary heaven for a little while.

This book was hilarious. I loved every page of it. I feel a kinship with Notaro in how I tend to biting and sarcastic about a lot of life (though she certainly has me beat). I carpool with my family to work and this book was banned from the car since I lack the ability to sit and read it quietly and NOT laugh out loud. I highly recommend this for anyone who's looking for sidesplitting laughter.

A good book to read if your in the mood for a thriller. Other then that, it was just OK. This book reminds me of Angels and Demons, a mystery thriller with some difficult terminology.

Andrew is commiting suicide. He has written his will, has found someone to take care of his dog and has a gun in his mouth. He is ready. After nine years spent to live his father wanted for him he has no more reason to live anymore. He has left his only love, Tony, nine years before. Andrew and Tony were roommate in the same fraternity. Andrew from a rich family, Tony from an old fashion italian family. Very old fashion and very close, and very Weres... But Andrew didn't know that and Tony feared to reveal his secret to his lover. I's not only a problem to be gay in a society where it's impossible to be, but also to be human and were, an unlikely pair, worst than man with man. Andrew is clever and submissive. He likes to be on bottom, he craves to be submissive. But his father wants a MAN like son, he has planned every step of his son life. And Andrew is clever enough to make all the right step, but they aren't his steps... he only wants to be with Tony and if he can't have him, he has no reason to continue. Tony is a strong Alpha male, but he is also a Lone Wolf. He can live without the pack if he can have his mate. But he respects all the choice of his lover. But not the ultimate choice: he will not let his lover give up life. The story is setting in two moments: in the past, during the college years of Tony and Andrew, and in the present. I really like the present point of view and I'd like to read more. I really hope that Evangeline Anderson will write more about these two and about their future life. http://elisa-rolle.livejournal.com/13...

Some nice touches but mostly boring. The series seems to be hit and miss for me. I loved some of the books and hated others.

Read this first in 2006, again this year. On the better end of the dystopian fiction spectrum.

Unless has made me realize that I need to get a copy of 1001 Book You Must Read Before You Die, because I cannot begin to understand how this book made the list. The story is about an authoress, Reta, whose 19 year old daughter gives up normalcy to live on the streets. On one level this novel is about women, their relationships, and feminism, although the point of these threads was difficult to find within such mundane writing. While not as poorly written as other novels that I have read, I still consider Unless to be a compete waste of time.
This book, like all of her books, was amazing. It was difficult, emotionally, to read, but it really made me remember all of the things teenagers go through on a day to day basis.

I think this book is a must read for any wife. I plan to buy a copy for my daughter who isn't even dating anyone serious yet and put it away for her to read during her one-day engagement period. I loved learning about the different cycles in marriage, the "SeeSaw principle" (keeping emotional balance), and "NMP" (not my problem; don't try to fix everyone's problems). My favorite quote from the book: "you can't 'fall out of love,' because love is something you decide". I admit the title of this book made me feel a bit uncomfortable (I actually read this one 'in hiding' so my husband wouldn't see the cover because I really do not feel like strangling him and I didn't want him to think I was feeling that way. I just want to understand his needs better and learn to be a better wife). This book got me focusing on my weaknesses more than my husband's, and gave me some tools that I can use to make his life journey with me (and, therefore, MY journey too) more enjoyable!
