I have been into memoirs lately and this is the best one I have found. This tale of a white woman growing up in rural Africa and the struggles her family endured amongst one another and because of the environment were fascinating.

I have to say, first off, that I am a die hard Neil Gaiman fan! Stardust sucked me in, and Neverwhere refused to let me go. American Gods only solidified his genius for me, Coraline was a page turner that I couldn't put down. With The Graveyard Book, I was not disappointed. Its about a boy named Nobody Owens, who is orphaned at a very young age. He'd raised by a pair of married ghosts and is given the Freedom of the Graveyard. There he grows up and learns things that most of us wouldn't dream of. This book is about his journey from childhood to the cusp of adulthood. It was fantastic! I would recommend this book to anyone. Well maybe not a small child, but anyone else would love it! I only wish it had been a little longer, I hated putting it down.

This book is about a brother and two sisters who sing country western music and make it big. About half way through the book something made me wonder if they ere real and I found out they were and I know a few of their songs. Don't like fiction books about real people. Just seems so deceiving. The reader doesn't know what is historically true and what is fiction. Another problem with this book is the lack of dialogue. This is probably why I never really got into the main character, Maxine.

In the novel Northanger Abbey Jane Austen satirizes the popular gothic novel of the Nineteenth Century to make fun of the manner in which the gothic novels such as The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe engaged the emotional and sexual parts of the human psyche. Austen believed that literature should stimulate the intellectual region of the brain. Gothic literature was composed of dark stories in which there were mysterious happenings and horrible but sensational secrets were exposed. Catherine Morland, the young protagonist of Northanger Abbey, is an avid reader of gothic novels, but she is oblivious to the dark intentions of the real people around her.Catherine’s innocence is contrasted against the covert agendas of new friends and acquaintances.

This was a book selected by my book club; I pushed myself to finish it for that reason. It is gruesome, gratuitously violent and full of degradation and horror. There are no likeable or sympathetic characters in this book. Each chapter presented a new and horrific reason to feel queasy--like you saw something you knew you shouldn't have seen, wished you hadn't seen and knew you would carry those really sickening images with you for a very long time. I am sorry I read it.

I don't "like" to compare one book to an other, for I feel as one person is not at all similar to the next. Though as for this book it very much like twilight. It was obvious that the author was inspired by Stephanie Meyer. But this was even better. If thought possible. Colleen is a much more intresting writer for she brought colourful mythology into a romantic tale. Together they made a beautiful story, with romance, thrills, & suspense. I am still not certain to if I am Ren, or Kishan. Both beautiful individuals. I'll have to wait for book #2

More complex plot still a good read. Somewhat of a cliff hanger ending so if that bugs you have the 3rd book handy
