Though a tad dated, I'd give this book 4.5 stars. Very enjoyable read.

I haven't given many bad reviews as I have always found something good in every book. Unfortunately, Wild Lavender for me personally, did not meet that conclusion. This book was suggested to me by a saleswoman after I mentioned that my favourite book is The Bronze Horseman. Apparently these two books have something common, if I love one I will love the other... But for my case that was not true. To start off, Simone, the main character, is barely tolerable. For me I found that the people she met along the way were far more interesting to read than reading about her dubious thoughts and opinions. However, the main reason that the book did not gel with me was the way the war was portrayed. I was expecting at least half of the book to be based on the war in Paris (especially after reading the blurb), but all I got was a rushed over summary. I will state that what was written in the last hundred pages or so finally lifted off for me and I could easily be fixed to the story... I just wish that it started a lot earlier for the characters and plot sake. 1.5 Stars.

Whether it's music, family dynamics, or politics, Divine Music by Suruchi Mohan has something for everyone. Mohan's exquisite writing captured me and took me right into the heart of India.

SPOILERS: I absolutely loved this book. Every book Ms. Harrison writes just gets better and better. Rachel has so many crazy things happen to her, I was convinced she wouldn't make it to the end of the book. But she did! The girl is a survivor. Is it me, or do Rachel & Trent kind of have this weird chemistry going on? Maybe it's just me. So there is a banshee on the loose with a daughter who does not have control over her banshee powers yet. Rachel & Ivy are called in to help the FIB. During all of this, Rachel discovers she has a ghost in her church, which just happens to be the ghost of the guy she helped when she was eighteen and who she has a crush on. Her mother also decides to move to the west coast to be closer to her real dad, leaving Rachel in Cincinnati by herself with only her friends to help her survive. After a horrific event, Rachel passes out and remembers the whole evening that Kisten died. After revealing this to Ivy, they go looking for the undead vampire, just to find out that he died too, along with Denon, which frankly, makes me happy because I didn't like him. At. All. In the end, Rachel receives her dad's old ley line spelling supplies and has a short run-in with Pierce, who kisses her soundly. Then, as he disappears Al shows up looking for Pierce. It's going to be an interesting Book 8 I think! I can't wait!
Drizzt is one of my all-time favorite characters. Though this book was quieter than the previous two, I still enjoyed it simply because he was in it. What I did not expect was the prejudice so apparent in this story. It was heartbreaking how Drizzt left the Underdark only to spend most his time lonely and misunderstood. Drizzt had a pretty hard life but he didn't whine about it. Each challenge he faced helped him grow. He's a strong character both physically and mentally. The only issue I had with this book was that the characters I liked kept disappearing while the one I didn't, Roddy McGristle, would not go away. He has to be one of the most annoying non-threatening bad guys ever written. What was the point of him? That quickling was just as irritating. I wonder if, somewhere, there's a pronunciation of the characters names. I love that black panther to death but three books later and I still can't pronounce her name.

I was really looking forward to reading this book because I enjoyed Commencement. Maine definitely did not disappoint. The four main characters include 3 generations of Kelleher women and they all have different views of each other and their family. I enjoyed getting to know the women as the chapters shifted through each woman's point of view. My only complaint was that the ending seemed abrupt.

This was recommended to me by sidi Abdul Wahid Ovaice. It's a slow read but full of gems.

i found a slightly torn paperback of this book (looks just like the icon here) at the somerville library. it was the only work by bukowski there, and it called to me. i've never read any bukowski, but figured something entitled simply, "Women", would be a good place to start.
