This is a fascinating book. It follows an autistic adolescent's attempt to detect the murder of the his neighbor's dog. Along the way he (perhaps unknowingly) reveals an enormous amount about his family and the stress his autism places on all of their relationships. I found it to be gripping, both as a character study and as a murder mystery. Reading it for a social psychology class, however, there were three or four minor, but glaring inconsistencies in the narrative that chafed me. Not enough to put the book down (I read it in one sitting), but enough to make me look up and go "huh, what?"

I absolutely fell in love with this book the moment I started reading it. Of course, it helps that it deals with one of my favorite topics, the Salem witch trials. Without giving too much away, Connie is a grad student working on her dissertation while trying to get her deceased grandmother’s house ready for sale. As she sorts through her grandmother’s things, she comes across a slip of paper with “Deliverance Dane” written on it. Connie does some research and finds out that Deliverance was one of the accused during the witch trials. This discovery leads to her dissertation topic. Much more involving witchcraft, her dissertation, and the house occurs and Connie must fight to save a loved one. Although there were times towards the end where I really wanted to strangle Connie for being so incredibly unmotivated about her two responsibilities (her dissertation and the house), I was still very wrapped up in the story. Katherine Howe indicated the possibility of a sequel during the discussion on Barnes and Noble’s First Look site and I hope she writes one. The story is definitely not over. ARC Review

Even though I adore both Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush, I had to give this one 4 stars. While it was a very good book, for some reason it just wasn't one of those that grabbed me by the throat and wouldn't let go until I had finished the last page. I still recommend to fans but it just wasn't as scary and nerve jangling to me as others they have written. Although there WAS one scene that hit on a particular phobia of mine and sent me jumping a bit. LOL

PHENOMENAL! Definitely going on my favourite book list! (Ps: I adore stand alone books as much as I hate that there won't be any more of the story..)

I liked it because it was a story about somebody's life. I felt like I was having a fun time when I read it. I liked that it was about girls by age and I kind of liked telling my mom about things of the chinese she didn't know about :).

I LOVED this book. It was suspenseful and fun to read. I loved the history and the possibilities presented of folklore actually existing. The research that she put in to writing this book is really impressive. I think it can be compared to Dan Brown's books Davinci Code and Angels and Demons

This book is about the constant internal struggle of a very, perhaps tragically, ordinary man. It is a truly beautiful book about a man who is trying to figure out who he is during a time where people lives are often determined for them. I loved it.

Easy to read. A good primer on modern day slavery. I'd like to get it in everyone's hands. Move on to Kevin Bales stuff for more detail and more in depth study.
