Again, a book about Countess Elizabeth Bathory. here's a link to the wikipedia article about her: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabet...] Very interesting if you are into that sort of thing.

"In this sparkling biography of the famed 18th century revivalist George Whitefield, Mahaffey argues that his enduring importance in American history lies in politics as much as in religion. A masterful stylist, Mahaffey brings fresh perspectives to old arguments and makes them live again in remarkably arresting ways." --Grant Wacker, Professor of Christian History, Duke Divinity School "The revivalist George Whitefield was the best-known person in eighteenth-century America, yet he remains almost forgotten among Americans today. Mahaffey offers a readable and revealing introduction to the life of this brilliant preacher and friend of American liberty." --Thomas S. Kidd, Associate Professor of History, Baylor University, and author of God of Liberty: A Religious History of the American Revolution "Mahaffey has put all students and scholars of the 18th-century transatlantic revivals--events that so hugely shaped both the British and the emerging American cultures--in his debt with this incisive and compelling work. His research will help all who seek to better understand this critically important period by providing new insights into the seminal importance of the too often neglected figure of George Whitefield." --Richard Land, President, The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, Southern Baptist Convention "Mahaffey has written an insightful rhetorical genealogy showing how the interplay of religious and political themes of the Great Awakening fostered the birth of a distinctively American republican identity." --John Angus Campbell, Professor Emeritus, Department of Communication, University of Memphis "Mahaffey points out that Whitefield's preaching provided the template for a new way of viewing the world and for Americans to view themselves. ... Students of American history and students of the preaching art will benefit from this book." --The Baptist Standard, September 8, 2011 "Mahaffey shows how Whitefield's bold challenge to settled religious doctrines and hierarchies helped coax the colonies in the direction of independence." --Matt Reynolds, Christianity Today, October 2011

Good idea. Poorly executed. It was very distracting that the characters used idioms from modern America. Trite, hackneyed idioms from modern America. Plot was stupid. Most of the characters were thin, especially the main character's love interest.

This has to be one of my absolute favourites of this series. It continues the Night Lords saga but the ending and that last scene with Abel just leaves me heart broken. I have read this one easily twice as many times as the rest.

Our teacher read this book out loud to our class in Fourth Grade, and upon a second reading more recently, the humor and feeling laced into the pages of this book stands up just as well now as it did for me then. This is simply a very good all-around story, and I was glad to have another opportunity to read it, and to rediscover the skills of Judy Blume. I was also a fan of the Fudge T.V. series in the mid-90's, which I watched whenever possible on Saturday mornings. I hope that new readers will continue to find this book, as I think that they will discover people and plots that they can relate to, and in Judy Blume an author who is always willing to write more good books.

This is, easily, the best historical look at pirates I've ever read. It clearly defines the differences between buccaneers, pirates and privateers, gives complete descriptions of lifestyle, backgrounds, ships, sailing methods, weaponry and justice.[return][return]Better yet (being a visual person), it's stocked full of paintings (primarily featuring Howard Pyle and Angus McBride), engravings, diagrams of ships, historical cut-a-ways and antique maps from the time periods being discussed.[return][return]The two appendixes in the back (further reading and the glossary) and positively indispensable for most readers...Many of the books recommended I've read and loved, also.[return][return]Well-researched and well-presented.

Many people warned me that this book was a slow read. Honestly, I think they're just so enamored with the previous books that they'd can't get into this one. It's a much darker tale and delves more into the thoughts of the characters than Inkspell and Inkheart. For this alone, I loved the book.[return][return]There's not just one plot going on here - and the plots that do exist are forever twisting and turning, leaving you absolutely breathless as you try to find out where they end up...It's reminiscent of political intrigues and thrillers, but in a much more fun setting.[return][return]This is one of those times when a sequel/finale really does outdo its predecessors....I can't say much more without giving anything away. =)[return][return]As a technical side note....The paper used in this first edition hardcover I have is absolutely wonderful to feel and read...It's very smooth-grained, thin but heavy-weighted paper. I've never been in love with a type of paper before, but I'm sorely tempted to contact the publisher about this one!

How much food do you throw in the garbage. Probably way too much, like every one else in America. This book is a huge eye opener about how much food is really wasted every day and how we don't even see the consequences that it's having on us and will have on our future. Jonathan Bloom is what I would consider an expert on the subject after several years of research and experiencing things first hand - he took jobs in the fast food industry and the grocery industry to research the topic. The best part of the book is the realistic recommendations that Bloom gives to fix the problem and start to really make changes in what's happening in this area. He doesn't just rant, he makes a realistic path for us to get things cleaned up and start using what we have and fixing the hunger problem we have in the US. I watched the "Dive!" documentary on Netflix while reading this book and it's just shocking. Maybe it's time to become a dumpster diver...

I really enjoyed this book and found myself laughing not only with him, but sometimes at him. I could totally relate to this dysfunctional family.

historical fiction about the Romanovs. learned a lot of neat facts-- like about their faith, and it made me think about my faith as well. However, some of the events in the story didn't sound believable and I couldn't empathize with the narrarator.
