I was reluctant to read this book at first. I must have looked at it in the bookstore 100 times before buying it. I'm so glad that I did--it was really a wonderful powerful read.

I could not put this one down! I liked the stories, I liked the characters, I liked the history. It is funny and very heartfelt. It's a memoir about family, parts of which I could definitely relate to. It's insightful and a very good, easy, and interesting read. To me, this is a great study of the different type of people we come in contact with every day. It's a great reminder to me of how we shouldn't be so quick to judge or hate and love others around us, despite their differences because this world would definitely be a boring place if everyone were the same. I'll definitely be reading the author's other book, Laughing Without an Accent: Adventures of an Iranian American, at Home and Abroad. Things about team and people management no one will teach you. Painfull, and liberating facts on gettinig your point across. What sets this book apart: the clear position on the fact of a direct link between ethics / seriousmindetness and the successful delivery of your message. (you have to be either crazy or simply truly convinced of your cause - then use these methods)

** spoiler alert ** Summary: Rebecca Bloomwood, in spite of working for a financial magazine, is a shop-a-holic and has shopped herself into extreme debt. She tries to make extra money while avoiding creditors and finds herself smitten with the head of a local financial PR man. Luckily, just at the right moment, she catches her big break, makes money to pay off her debt, and changes her PR boyfriend's mind about working for an evil firm. Review: This book wasn't the kind of book that one could call mind candy, it accomplished the rotting with no fun sugar high. The plot moved quickly, but accomplished pretty much nothing. Not a great read.

This is another slice-of-life graphic novel about growing up in a foreign country. It was very good, but I've read so many of these lately that they're almost becoming a cliche. Still, if you're curious about the lives of high school girls in the 1970s African Ivory Coast. The story was engaging and there are recipes and a glossary in the back of the book!

I absolutely loved this book. I loved the whole concept, and i loved how the whole book was a memoir to Mia's life. and I felt special because I used to play the cello and so did she:O! All the characters were so perfect and amazing and lovely and the only bad thing was when the book ended.
Reminded me of Isle of Passion by Laura Restrepo. Isolated on an island, the story revolves around the heroicism of resisters against the Germans during WWII. The story is told through a series of letters between a writer and her friends and publisher. Not much happens, but vivid characters and emotional story lines.
