This was the finale of the Mortal Instruments series. I enjoyed this book and how the author tied the story together. There were a few things that I wished she had explored further, but a good conclusion to a series that I enjoyed.

Sweet story, amateur style - not all controversial books whose authors nearly get into jail are literary masterpieces... After the initial cosiness of familiar dishes and family relations, the captivating rebelliousness of Zeliha's character and the street sounds of Istanbul, the unbelievable characters and clumsy attempts of magical realism start spoiling the story. Nevertheless, I have a soft spot for books set in Islam countries and/or the Balkans, hence the three stars.

Interesting historical novel. Set in the times when timber barons stripped the land of everything. Conservation was a new idea and there was a government push to create a national forest in the appalachian mountains. This is the story of Pemberton. A timber baron who goes to boston, falls in love and brings home a wife, Serena. (Meeting their train back in North Carolina is a young girl pregnant with Pemberton's child) At first all is fantastic - however- Serena has very liberal ideas on how to get rid of those against them. Then Serena has a miscarriage and all hell breaks loose.

I was a little slow getting in to this one, but once I did it was funny and smart and heart wrenching all at once. A different kind of story about Nazi Germany for young adults. I haven't cried so much over the ending of a story in a long time.

I really picked up this book to see how much of his brain was left after his years of recreational substance use. What I found was a fabulous, witty, SMART writer, who'd matured past his earlier, somewhat smug, incarnation. The topics are a little dated, but who cares? His writing is marvelous.

It's cool. I like war. Go Japs.
It is SO exciting when I see another of Jonathan Kellerman's book are out in paperback, like knowing I can hunker down and disappear into "escape/indulgence" reading land. So spotted this one at the local Safeway store, put on my Pjs and went to bed early to read away. But you know, it seems like he's run out of steam. With Alex and Robin now having resolved their relationship problems, and Milo and Rick having resolved theirs, that leaves only the plot to unfold, and it seemed to me to lack depth of character or plot. One interesting aspect was the arrival of Facebook etc. into life and thus, the plot. Plus now that S. lives in LA, it is more interesting to me to follow the geography of the plot. But overall, predictable stereotyping of the kids at a rich kids' prep school, predictable stereotyping of the staff, and Delaware and Strugis are pretty predictable as well. Sigh.
not as good as first 2 books. A good history study, however.
Difficult to follow, feel like I need to go back and reread just to keep track of the characters, but I just don't care enough about them.
