Mr. Coetzee has a pretty low opinion of his work and of himself. Interesting autobiography and a new way to write it. Good work from a great author! I enjoy his work and he just keeps getting better with age. Rock on, Mr. Coetzee! You rule in my literary universe.

It was... a sad story. The ending wasn't exactly a surprise, but it was un-hoped for and heart-breaking. I didn't realize they were at Auschwitz until half-way through the book, which I think was the author's intention.

Not nealry as eyeopening as the tao of Pooh, but still very logical and educating.

Out of all the shopaholic books, I think I liked this one the best. I'm a sucker for weddings, so I think that's why I lean toward this one. She's finally marrying the hunk that she met in book 1. Good times!

An engaging book as a novel, but subscribes a little too firmly to the Great Man Theory of history to be a reliable source of historical analysis.

A man being hunted to death can be such a painfully beautiful story. Like all Cormac McCarthy. Glorious writing.

I've never actually read a book from this genre before. I know, I know...have I been hiding under a rock? What can I say, Cliffs notes were my friend in school. After reading so many "romances" that are in your face with the content, I was wondering how I'd respond to the subdued nature of the the content of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, I flew through the book finishing it in 2 days. It was well-written, and the dialogue was extremely clever. I really enjoyed the characters. Even the ones I disliked at first, I liked at the end. At the beginning, I made predictions about where I thought the plot was heading, but was wrong. I'm glad that the story wasn't that predictable. While reading it, I couldn't help thinking what a great stage play this would make. Even while reading it, I felt like I could totally hear the characters as they were saying the lines. Maybe this is the Drama teacher in me coming out.
I liked it. Not like I couldn't put it down though. The ending was unsatisfying, but I am assuming its a series. If you like the Hunger Games genre then this is a quick read worth picking up.
I was really disappointed with this book. It lacked the plot and pace of her other novels and it seemed like the end had very little to do with the beginning in some ways. The seams just seemed to hang loosely together and it felt as if Fairstein hadn't the enthusiasm to pull them in any tighter. I normally like her books and keep them on my shelves, but this one instantly went into the Charity shop bag.
