Some people find this book disturbing. I found it fasinating!

Cute story, not as captivating as some books-the 2nd half is definately better than the first.

(Grades 4 and up) The Beaumont family is unusual, to say the least. When a Beaumont turns 13, they discover what their “savvy” or special talent is. Grandpa moves mountains. Fish starts hurricanes. Mama is perfect. Literally. And Mibs? Well, she’s waiting to see what her savvy will be. And she needs a good one if she’s going to help Poppa recover from his terrible accident. But first she has to convince the Bible salesman to drive her, her siblings, and the preacher’s kids to the hospital – hundreds of miles away. Time is running out, and the police are on their trail. Will Mibs’ savvy (and the kindness of strangers) be enough to save the day? Read this sweet and funny fantasy and find out.
I adored Mistwood! Absolutely, completely, fell in love with that book, so I had very high expectations for Nightspell. It took me ages to actually get my hands on a copy, but when I finally did it when to the top of my reading pile. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed it, this never really lived up to Mistwood. I am not even quite sure why, but it just never clicked with me. The multiple narrators was both a good and bad thing. It allowed for various viewpoints into the story and setting, but it felt like it broke up the natural flow of the story. Whenever it seemed like I was beginning to connect with one of the characters, the point-of-view would change. Darri and Callie’s relationship was probably my favorite element of the story. I loved the exploration of the changing dynamic between the two of them. The only other character with whom I felt any real connection was Kestin. Although I feel like his potential for the story was never fully realized. Clarisse is the only character that makes the jump from Mistwood to Nightspell, and she remains devious and cunning. The story and plot were chalk full of potential. Just read the summary and you will realize that. Unfortunately it feels like much of that potential is lost. There are some truly brilliant moments in the story. There’s a huge plot twist that I absolutely adored. I did see it coming, so I was not shocked by it, but I loved the way the author handled it. I also liked the parts between Kestin and Clarisse and the scenes between Kestin and Darri. Overall Nightspell was an interesting, nice little fantasy, but it never succeeded in realizing its full potential. If you are looking for a good fantasy to read, I would definitely recommend Mistwood over Nightspell. This was worth the read, but not something I will probably read again. I will be looking forward to see what the author does next though.

I remember this book fondly. It's a good summer reading but it does give you a real peek into the lives of the super-rich.

Very good read, but the author does not write about her experience living in the Afghan household, which is a bit bewildering. She was present for many of the incidents she writes about, but she tells the story as if she was not present. It would have been very interesting to get her feelings, fears, sadness, etc. as she become more aware of a society she does not seem to know much about. I also do not agree with her detailing such intimate information on a family that was showing her kindness. It definitely puts that family in grave danger and the two wives have had to flee the country with their children. Maybe for a better way of life? We can only hope.
Because that's just how big a geek I am.

This was the first George MacDonald book that I read that wasnt a farie story, and the first with so much spiritual discussion. I thought it was amazing how he was able to filter through all the different religous 'stuff' of his day and hit smack dab on so much truth. I thought it was truly inspiring!

This book is less than 300 pages, but it seems as if it takes a lifetime to read. It is soooooooooo incredibly boring ughhhhhh. She just talks and talks and talks, and she really is just a huge jerk a lot of the time. The experiences that Ehrenreich describes are anti climactic and bordering pointless. Personally I don't think this book is worth a nickel or a dime.

This is the third in the Face down series. I enjoy these mysteries and the main character is quite independent. I would not put them down as literary masterpieces but for a nice read they are enjoyable. The main Character, Lady Appleton, has been developing as the series progresses and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
