Demons, magic, two head-strong stubborn people, and romance. What more is there to say?

So far it's not a bad book but it's not a great one either. It's an "eco-thriller" so I dig it because I am very interested in the environment. But because it's Neal Stephenson, it's more about the character than the environment and since the charcter's voice isn't terribly readable, this book isn't as good as his others. Still, I want to read it all the way through and am not bored.

I really did not care for Alex in the least. I fell in love with death, the faye detective, & the gargoyle. they are the only reason I am going to read the next book. After all, gotta know if death is gonna make a move, since his feelings are out in the open.

For this book was morally intriguing. A good read for anyone interested in psychology, especially behaviorism and B.F. Skinner.
this book is awsome!
Read this book about 5 years ago, and everytime I look at a map of Chile, I think about this book. That says something.

Ostensibly a guide for screenwriters, but unlike most other books aimed at that market, it doesn't offer much in the way of specific techniques and guidelines. Rather, it's a readable distillation of Joseph Campbell's work on mythic storytelling, using examples from well-known movies. Vogler recognizes that there is no single fixed formula for a good story. The book is presented as a way of looking at and thinking about story elements in ways that will connect with an audience. Like most books of this nature, in a practical sense it's more useful as a guide for criticism than for story development. It also fails to provide as many examples as it should -- reading a page of text on some character archetype with no illustrations from classic stories is like reading a history book with no references. However, there's something about this book that seems to get my creative juices flowing. I can almost always count on being inspired with a good idea or fix for my own stories after reading a chapter, even if it's not directly related.
beautiful fantasy world. interesting religious themes as well. though not interested in the religious symbolism anymore, the inspirational elements are encouraging.
