I loved this book as much as the first on Love That Dog. Jack continues to write poetry and we learn about his deaf mother and a new addition to his family! Once again, a very touching book.

If you know anything about Connecticut, you know that its cities are among the poorest in the nation and its suburbs are the richest. If you know anything about education and social justice, you can imagine the achievement gap that exists in Connecticut. This book looks at the landmark Sheff v. O'Neill school desegregation case, in which the plaintiffs argued that their children were being provided with a "separate and unequal" education and that Connecticut has not lived up to the requirements of Brown v. Board. It's an interesting way to look at education reform - perhaps, instead of trying to improve our essentially segregated schools, we should not take for granted that brown children almost always go to different schools than white children. Perhaps everyone - including white kids - deserves an integrated education.

We read this yesterday afternoon. I had forgotten all the wonderful lessons in this charming little book. Wanda is different, but so content, and talented. Peggy is confused. How can this poor Polish girl have 100 dresses? Maddie is worried. What if the teasing turns to her instead of Wanda? Wand shows friendship. Peggy and Maddie try to make things right and Maddie makes a very important commitment. Great book!

Can I acknowledge this book’s many flaws and still say that I loved it all the same? I thought the first half of the book, pre-shipwreck, was stronger than the second half. It was more epic in scope as well, with three-toed sloths, and zoos, and alpha males, and curries, and childhood anxieties, all thrown in with a little religion and politics. I loved Richard Parker, just as Pi learned to and I also depended on him to keep the story real, even in the face of French chefs, teeth fruit, and meerkats. I didn’t always agree with the narrator’s insistency that zoos were a place an animal could feel at home (remember the swaying Polar Bear and the Gorilla eating its own vomit at Como, Mara?) or that only psychology and dominance – not abuse – goes into the training of circus animals, and I did not always agree with the author’s plot choices, but it did not keep me from enjoying the tense yet gentle story or the beautiful, clear writing. Since I read the book, Richard Parker has haunted me, too. Recommended by my boyfriend.

Well, crap. Apparently young Philip K. Dick was a terrible writer. Even the story this collection is named after was shockingly mediocre, and nothing I've read in this matches the literary subtlety or inherent weirdness of Dick's novels. Oh, well.

I loved this charming little quick read. It's all about how disengaged our youth society is--a farcial story about two friends who both love the same boy and how through texting and IMing and all of the Cyrino style stunts they pull to try and figure if he's into M or F?

I stopped reading horror fiction, but this book I am glad I read when I used to read a lot of King. Great book about the battle between good and evil. The ABC drama series was good as well (even though today it is a bit outdated). I recommend the book.

When actress Georgie York's film career hits rock bottom along with her marriage, the paparazzi has a field day with her misfortune, which is only complicated by the reappearance of her sexy, unscrupulous former costar, Bramwell Shepard. SEP is one of my favorite authors, but this book wasn't as much fun as many of hers are. One of the reasons I like her so much is the fact that her stories have so much humor but this title was more serious. It was entertaining and a quick read, but not one of my favorites.
