The second novel in the Harry Potter saga begins with one of the most irritating characters ever written. Whenever I read this book, I want to whallop Dobby. Don't get me wrong, I love him in later books, but in this one he really buggs me! But, other than that, this book holds true to all of J.K. Rowling's novels thus far: the more recently they were written, the better they are. In other words, the more Harry Potter you read, the more you get sucked into her fantastical world of witches, wizards, and mystical creatures. Anyone who says this is a rip off of the Lord of the Rings books is off their rocker! If you think this is true, then all books are rip offs of all other books in the world! It just goes too far! Yup, well, that's my "review!" Enjoy.

** spoiler alert ** This is the first book i've read by Cassandra Clare and it's definitely one of my favorite books. I bought this book on a whim without really knowing what it was about (I think the cover mostly had to do with me buying it). I immediately loved the characters and thought the story was really interesting. One thing I liked about this book was all the twists it had. You always see authors TRYING to surprise you but you can usually guess whats going to happen next. I liked how in this book, she added so much material to think about that you had no idea where she was heading next. Between Tessa being a warlock, Jem's opium addiction, De Quincy, the Dark sisters, Will...well, being Will (probably my favorite character in the book), Jessamine's hate for the Shadowhunter life, etc., I didn't even really think about Mortmain until he came up the end. Also, I loved the ending which is really surprising to me. Usually if a book doesn't end in some sort of romantic way (which I usually expect look for when choosing a book) I hate the ending. Somehow, Cassandra Clare managed to make a happy ending (well, other than the prologue) without having Will end up with Tessa. The only thing I didn't like was that we didn't really learn much about Will's past. I can't wait to get the second book and find out more.

I feel like I didn't pay enough attenetion to this book because I had already watched "The Town." The references to the geography of Boston at the beginning of every chapter were a little hard to get used to and made the book progress slower. Great plot, just wish I knew about htis before I watched the movie.

** spoiler alert ** I enjoyed this book. The final story is about to finish unraveling. I cant wait for Ever to finally get her one true love. Exspecially since she overcame her chakra. The one thing I didnt care for in this book was that Ever "trained" really hard to try and defeat her BF, but ultamately sucked at each chance she had to take her out. Well until the end, but talk about all talk. Then the secret that dear old Damon held was not much of a secret. I mean its not like he really did anyhting bad. I do feel sorry for Jude though. He seems so nice and innocent through this whole thing but he still gets the shaft. Hopefully he can finally find happiness in the end.

Good, Christian novel set in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Interesting read, but definitely should be taken with a grain of salt.

The author is a good friend's ex-boyfriend (he came to my wedding, as a matter of fact). Nice guy, tons of fun. When I saw this book had been published, my interest was piqued. Definitely a creative exercise. Some of these scenarios are ones my friends or I have dreamt up at one time or another. Others were startlingly imaginative. I was reading this on a commute and I think that was the wrong setting. The vignettes are super short (2-3 pages) and I was just zipping through them. Eventually I got tired of the conceit. I think I would have enjoyed this more if the stories were longer and there were fewer of them. As it is, it almost seems like pre-writing for a book of short stories (or a tv pilot!). I also think I would have liked this book more as a book club kind of read where the different scenarios could spark more in-depth discussion among friends.

The story of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow isn't particularly clever, but the way Washington Irving tells the story is superbly brilliant. A very enjoyable light read.

My first foray into Macdonald. Lew Archer is among the prototypes for the hard-boiled detective, and I enjoyed the book.
