Typically brilliant, written with a strangely non-lyrical intensity in a sort of Yiddish-influenced English. Appropriates the policier as a way of looking at what it means to be Jewish. The detective figure, who is always asking questions and trying to by the way to find a deeper meaning for his life, trying to find his place, perhaps this is the Jewish condition. Also a nifty little mystery, though in the revelation of who is behind various twists, the book suffers a William Gibson-like devolution into murkiness. Still and all, pretty damned terrific.
Talbot Course: Life of Christ Very similar in concept to Blomberg's book; thorough, but not as deep as I would like

THis book is a classic and I thought it was ok as classics go. Unfortunatly it did kinda stop leaving you wanting more and wasn't very complex.

This is not a book I'd have chosen to read if it weren't for our local book club, but ultimately I got a lot out of it. As with all "family sagas," the plot is kind of too big for one novel (even one of this size), and it took me forever to get through it because I was never so mesmerized that I couldn't put it down, but I certainly never got bored reading. I am a sucker for well-written first-person narration, and there's plenty of that here (the writing is generally quite good, but I am especially fond of character-specific language use--e.g. when a medical-specialist-narrator refers to a part of someone else's body as "the region of her coccyx" instead of "her lower back"--and this book has that sort of thing in spades). And while I'm afraid it made me very glad I never even thought about becoming a doctor, it certainly did make me want to travel to Ethiopia. Speaking of which: if you are familiar with the tastes of Ethiopian food, this book will make you hungry for it. You have been warned!

Great premise, but the characters failed to grab me and the plot wobbled all over the place without a cohesive antagonistic force.

The saga of Fabletown continues with Volume 2, which collects issues 11-18 of the comic. The non-human members of Fabletown, who are forced to stay on a large farm in upstate New York, decide to collect weapons and plan to invade the homeland. When Snow White stumbles upon their plan she discovers that they will stop at nothing to get their way. What's more, she believes that even with all their weapons, they have no real hope of besting the Adversary. Another gripping installment of a very well-thought-out and innovative story. I've already got the next volume on hold at the library and can't wait to read it. Highly recommended.

Michael Connelly never fails to entertain me with his thrilling potboilers. The return of Jack McEvoy and Rachel Walling chasing another serial killer was great. I love the way Connelly weaves old plots and past characters into his stories without being overt. I think this one was his best since Lincoln Lawyer.

I found this to be a let down. The end lacks imagination and I felt it was rushed.
I really enjoyed the multimedia aspect of this book. I hear there is a part 2 as well a picture book by this author slated. Reads well on iPad not sure how I would hVe liked it on the regular kindle. A quick and enjoyable read.

I'm still reading it. Pretty good, though. Starting to understand my 5 year old son much better.
