Interesting central hypothesis about how the position of Shiites within the Muslim world is changing, but wasn't overly impressed with his argument. Too much of it felt a bit anecdotal.

Probably the best telling of the Arthurian legend I've ever read.

I am a big fan of Palahniuk's early stories. But once he hit Haunted, it's been a downward spiral, in my opinion. This is one of two Palahniuk novels I didn't even care enough to finish. Perhaps there was a story told eventually, but to me it just felt like a string of name dropping that was supposed to serve as biting satire of Hollywood. I've got my fingers crossed for Palahniuk's next novel, Damned.
Meh. It was fun. I didn't like the person Vianne had become through most of this one, and she's so awesome in Chocolat that it is just kind of disappointing a lot of the time. It was okay though.

Well, this is a "classic" and comes highly recommended, but it didn't appeal to me at all. First of all, there was no real story, other than this boy who was kicked out of school spending a few days in loitering about. He had no ambitions, no hopes or dreams, and not much to recommend him. It is touted as a great "coming of age" novel ... however, I don't know people who come of age the way he did. And although I've learned to overlook language that I don't usually use when it is in books, this was, to my mind, overdone. It might be the way the boy talked, but that was just more to "not recommend him". Even if the word "goddamn" had been replaced with a nice word, say, "rainbow", I wouldn't have wanted to read it as often as it was included ... often several times in a paragraph, and sometimes more than once in the same sentence! So overall, I can say I wasn't really impressed, although I'm still glad to say that I've read the book. Even when I don't especially enjoy a book, I enjoy the challenge of reading it, and contemplating what it might be that others see in the book to recommend it.

Was resisting this for some reason. It was a lot better than I was expecting. Wonder what people identified as being on the autistic spectrum make of it.
By: Peter Yarrow and Lenny Lipton Genre: Fiction, picture book, dragons Audience: k thru 4th Theme:growing up, childhood playmates, friends Use: Read Aloud, classroom library Reading level: transitional Illustrations: Support the text very well matching what is said. The pictures are beautifully done. Thought: This book is about a dragon and his friend Jackie and their many adventures. Jackie grows up and movies and away leaving puff by himself. Just like the song Puff the Magic Dragon

I thought this was a normal Reichs novel so was a bit surprised to find it aimed at teens. I still enjoyed it though but as you can imagine it was an easier read than expected. A few twists here and there and it didn't quite end as I thought.
It was a difficult read since the book forced me to recognise that things I thought I was great at and was my life calling were in fact just the starting basics given to me by the planets at birth. It really challenged me to the point of swearing as it poked and prodded at my habitual ways of doing things and really called for me to change. Highly recommend but not for the faint hearted.
